856) 7 years of Blogging :::: Where Am I today?!

Today marks the 7th birthday -my lucky number- of my blog ... yeah it has been 6 month since my last post, and that is the longest period ever I stopped publishing on my blog, but in 7 years, that is not that much time.

It was a weird feeling not to be able to express myself through writings as I used to over all these years. It was something like a mental / psychological block that kept me not able of putting any thought on paper during that period.

This is coinciding with getting into the late 30s and soonly moving to 40s, where I am stopping before a huge and massive milestone & checking not only if I am still on the right track, but if it is the right track in the first place.

I traveled to many places in 3 different continents during these 6 months, thought a lot about it, and realized that some dreams deserve to die for while other dreams are to be kept in that wonderful golden fluffy cage somewhere in your mind.

On the public front, lots of disappointments and frustrations over the last 3 years, and I still have hope that by staying in Egypt and helping in changing of the mindset of the younger generations, we can change the culture in the future ... I am still working on it, but awaaaaay from politics.
On the mental / career front, things are not going as good as it was before the revolution(s) in business, but I am still challenging myself to focus on quality not pursue money to compensate for the lost business. Yet, I had to let go of some expensive dreams and replace them with more practical ones.
On the emotional front I am still fighting and struggling to find "the best friend for the rest of my life" to be my life partner rather than settling for the increasing urge of companionship and increasing pressures from family and society. I am also getting back to physically meet my close friends in person after falling into the virtual trap for a long time and losing the taste real friendships.
On the spiritual front, although my practices are not getting any better - except on the moral part-, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I can feel the greatness of God in everything, and I am so grateful more than ever. I am sure I will reach that level of purity I wanna reach someday ISA. I am still still struggling with the dual-faced society that focuses on the practices and looks rather than the faith and actions.
On the phyiscal front, my health is fine, and I am almost sustaining a regular workout practice to keep myself of gaining weight, get more fit, and lead a healthy life-style (I gotta be trained from now, not when I am old).

So more or less, I realized that life is a continuous non-ending struggle with myself and others, and as much as the hardships of these struggles, as much as it is the essence of its beauty till reaching my destination ... The secret is feeling grateful for what I have, ambitious about what I wanna have, and not regretful for what I haven't had.

841) Not Just A Blog ... !

It is that time of the year where I celebrate the anniversary of most precious companion "MOH@LYICS" that was "born" on February 27th 2007; i.e. it has just turned 6 !

This blog has played an important role in my life during the past 6 years, it is one of the reasons that I am still keeping my mental and psychological sanity -so far-. It has started after some major incidents on the personal and the professional level accompanied by lots of challenges that was either beaten or contributed to whom I am today.

Since then the blog has witnessed some of the major incidents in my life and in the country as well. It became like a wife that I haven't got married to, a son that I haven't had, a real best friend that I haven't got, and a psychiatrist that help me to get through life. It penetrated deep within me with all its discussions, genuine feelings, thoughts, guides, ...etc. It is ALIVE.

Although the number of posts are getting much less as I am only posting one a week (usually on Saturdays), but I can feel the amount of interaction, depth of conversation, and overall benefit is getting much deeper. This wouldn't have happened except with the great contribution of the blog FAMILY.

Many readers have joined and commented in the blog, and some of them had real impact on it; like Tamer Mokhtar who was the one who pushed me to publish my thoughts, Spot Local Team, Group 61 AUC, Lubna, Asmaa, Nermeen, Sarah, Ibrahim, Yasmine(s), Fatima, the unforgettable Mona, and many others who kept coming and going over the years. However, there is one reader whom I consider the 2nd Establisher of the Blog, someone who challenged me to get the best out of me, a reader whom without her I would have stopped writing in 2012; the year that witnessed my greatest depression ever and where I stopped writing for more than 3 months. I think it is not hard to guess who she is .... Maryam :)

Happy Anniversary my lovely blog family, and I am sorry that I thought of closing it one day..

MOH@LYICS ... Round 6

I cant believe it has been 5 years already since this blog has started (27/2/2007) .. Although it is a virtual blog, but it has played a big role in keeping me motivated and alive.. This last year was very heavy, it started by lots of posts and continuous writing and motivation, and ended by temporarily loosing the ability to write anything after PortSaid massacre that I still can't believe its cruelty till now..

I thought a lot about closing the blog on its 5th anniversary, but I decided not to, and give myself another chnace. I am resuming writing next week in-shaa-Allah and I really wish that the 6th year will be better than the 5th and continue writing about development and construction instead of sadness and disappointment.

Thank you my dear readers and blog followers for making this blog alive.

Oh My God .. It is the 4th year already!!

My last words last year were I hope that we will be together till we celebrate the completion of the 3rd year as we started it together. Wish you all the best, and Happy Anniversary :) & here we are celebrating it.

This blog became another home to me where I have brothers, sisters, cousins, neighbors...etc. A complete virtual life where some of its members I know, others I have just talked too and some never met!

This year was the least in the amount of posts but the most in the amount of interaction and comments. This means that the blog is getting more mature, and this puts me in a position of responsibility. Although I do write as an amatur (even my official articles) but I feel responsbile infornt of my readers and blog followers.

Everytime when I am running out of ideas or topics, I find myself starting a whole new series that leads to another and another, and with your support and assurance that it makes a difference, I was able to go on and on and on..

Since 2007: 662 posts, 6599 comments (some posts were over 50) were posted in 2,385 web pages. 32,090 visitors paid 124,250 visits creating 230,065 page views from 137 countries. Blog Followers has increased from 12 to 59 in the 3^rd year.

Most visiting countries are Egypt (52%), USA (18%), UK (5%), Morocco (4%), Switzerland (4%), UAE (4%), Australia (2%), Germany (2%), Saudi Arabia (2%), & Canada (1%), Other (6%).

I am glad that only half of the people come from Egypt, this enriches the discussions. Noblese I guess you are happy, it jumped to 4% this year.

Average Time on Site is 4.2 mins per visit; i.e. visitors had spent 8697 hours on this blog since it started (that is almost a whole year!). 39% is the average percentage of new visits.

My Dear Readers,

This period is very hard on me after what I have been through during the last couple of days. It is even harder as I am preparing for the discussion of my final dissertation for PhD next week. So I need time to forget the pain, reflect on the changes I am passing through, and focus on the final studies, specially that I will be out of town/country from now till the end of the month.

It is about time to have the 2nd break since I started this blog. I haven't stopped blogging since the last break in December 2007. 

After your kind permission: The Blog break starts today, and the Blog will be resumed after 10 days on Monday April 27th 2009 in-shaa-Allah.

500) Tribute to .... My unknown family!!

Every 100 post, I tribute the post to someone ...

I was so confused whom I should dedicate this post to, specially after dedicating the last one (400) to my late father!! Then I found out that I want to dedicate it to people whom I have been longing sooo much for ... the only people who have enough impact to change my busy life ... some of the very few people that I can put as a priority in my life even before myself ... people who make me enjoy giving ... people who make me enjoy life.. (ya3nee at least so far...)

I am dedicating this post to my lovely wife and beautiful kids!!

The head of the Egyptian Government has confirmed commenting online on a blog, being the 2nd Arab official after King Abdullah of Jordan to enter the blog world himself...

بدا مدونون مصريون غير مصدقين وهم يعقبون على مشاركة نادرة قام بها رئيس مجلس الوزراء المصري الدكتور أحمد نظيف، في مدونة ذات توجه يساري تدعى "على اسم مصر" للمدون مصطفى محمود، وفقا لتقرير نشرته صحيفة "الشرق الأوسط اللندنية السبت 9-8-2008. وأكد نظيف لصحف محلية لاحقا أنه صاحب الرد، وهو ما تزامن مع مطالبة ناشطين بالإفراج عما قالوا إنهم مدونون معتقلون.

ورد الدكتور نظيف على انتقادات حادة حول توجهات حكومته الاقتصادية، وبخاصة تجاه التعليم، بثتها مدونة يسارية متشددة ترفع أعلاما لأحزاب وحركات شيوعية، قائلاً في مشاركته: "أعبر عن خالص تقديري للحوار البناء عبر المدونات، وأنا سعيد بحيوية الشباب المصري في التعبير الحر عن آرائه بشأن القضايا الاجتماعية والسياسية التي تواجه مجتمعنا وتستحق منا كل الاهتمام. وأحسب أن الآراء المطروحة في المدونات يمكن أن تفيد في توجيه السياسات العامة للدولة. وهذا ما دفعني إلى متابعة الحوار الدائر بالمدونات، فأنت وزملاؤك من المدونين، تشكلون واجهة مشرقة لمستقبل واعد بمزيد من الديمقراطية"

.وبدت لغة رئيس مجلس الوزراء، وسط سيل من تعليقات مكتوبة بلا تحفظ، مثيرة لانتباه مشاركين في المدونة، وخاصة أن نظيف ذكر -في رده على اتهامات المدونة لحكومته بأنها منحازة لرجال الأعمال- أرقاماً محددة عن زيادة موازنة دعم التعليم في السنوات الأخيرة، وتحدث بلسان رجل اقتصاد ليبرالي لا يريد التخلي عن الفقراء، وهي سمات بدت لعديد من المدونين قريبة الشبه بتوجهات الحكومة المصرية بقيادته، ولا سيما ختامه لكلمته التي قال فيها على المدونة: "جُملة القول، إن ما نحتاج إليه حاليا لتحقيق هذا الهدف (تطوير التعليم) هو زيادة وتنويع مصادر التمويل المتاح، وتحقيق كفاءة التمويل، وتفعيل المشاركة المجتمعية، وتطبيق مبادئ الحوكمة، وصولاً إلى تأسيس البنية الأساسية اللازمة لإنتاج ونشر المعرفة لصالح كل الثروة البشرية التي تمتلكها مصر على مختلف المستويات الاجتماعية"

.تعقيب رئيس الوزراء المصري لم يمنع بعض المشاركين على المدونة من التشكيك في الأمر، مستبعدين أن يكون نظيف لديه وقت للدخول على الإنترنت، فعلَّق من يطلق على نفسه "جبهة التهييس (الهبل) الشعبية" بقوله: «هههه.. ده أحمد نظيف رئيس الوزراء بجد؟ طب يدينا أمارة (أية علامة). ويذكر أن الجبهة المذكورة هي اسم مدونة تكتبها نوارة فؤاد نجم، ابنة الشاعر الشهير أحمد فؤاد نجم.ورجح مشارك آخر، لم يذكر اسمه، أن يكون المتفاعل مع المدونة هو رئيس الوزراء ذاته، بقوله: "والله جايز.. ليه لأ؟ خصوصاً إن الكلام رسمي وشبه كلام الوزراء في التليفزيون، ليه نستبعد إن ده كلام نظيف؟ ماعتقدش يا جماعة إنها متفبركة، وبعدين مين هيجي على باله فكرة زي دي؟ وتفتكروا إيه مصلحته؟ أنا شايف إنها بداية كويسة إن صوتنا يتسمع في المدونات والحوار بينا وبين الحكومة يبقى مباشر؟ يمكن فعلاً يبقى عندنا ديمقراطية"

يشار إلى أن مركز المعلومات ودعم اتخاذ القرار بمجلس الوزراء المصري وصف في تقرير له أصدره أخيراً، المدونات بأنها أدوات مهمة في تشكيل مجتمع معلومات قائم على الديمقراطية، لكنه قال أيضاً، إن عدم وجود رقابة على المدونات، يعد من مواطن قوة المدونات وضعفها أيضاً.وذكر التقرير، أن عدد المدونات المصرية بلغ 160 ألف مدونة حتى شهر إبريل/ نيسان الماضي، بنسبة 30.7% من المدونات العربية، و0.2% من إجمالي المدونات على المستوى العالمي.

I havent been able to write this whole week becuase of the lack of access to Internet after the internet problem, and because I have been in the hospital for couple of horrible days for sudden Kidney trouble.

Anyway, since I am starting a new year in my life (last 27th), and new year in this blog (on 27th), I decided to have a weekly post quickly commenting on the major things that happened to the World, Egypt, and myself during the week (from my point of view).
