Doctors say male impotence in Egypt is relatively common, in part because of smoking and diabetes.

Some experts blame this on high levels of pollution and on the widespread use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides in Egyptian agriculture.

I'll temporarily put aside my personal objection on publicizing that stuff in the media either for males (like those types of ads) or females (you know what ads I mean).

I simply see that preaching for using these enhancments means either there's a problem in the health or it's just like following up that 'global fever' of bying anything as much as the "ads" convince you to do so, even if you actually don't need it. This reminds me with "el-noom fi el-3asal" 4 Adel Emam by the way!

Restoring back my objection to publicizing such stuff -on TV/Newspapers/ect because I still believe in modesty even if it seems dissaperaring in the Arab society not only Egyptian one.

Eah dalemtaha? Didn't mean to :)

[The comment is long, I divided it into two comments]

I thought for a while about how to put this, until it hit me. I once went to a Cafe in Masr El-Gedeeda to watch the football game between Egypt and US.

When I was there, I caught a couple sitting on the couch next to ours, and not that I'm a pervert or anything, but the girl was wearing a golden outfit that is composed of a sparkling tight top, pants that are abnormally revealing, sandals, a what seemed to be an elaborate hairdo, jewelery, and some other stuff I won't describe because there are ladies reading this.

She was smoking heavily with her boyfriend, she was also sitting in a weird way, posing stuff that actually distracted me from the already boring and eccentric game.

Anyways, case in point, after the match, a commercial similar to the one you posted came next on TV, and of course, we were a bunch of guys, so we kept mocking it, throwing comments that range from anxiety about our status quo in sexual potency, to moral discussions about the legality of advertising such stuff on the screen to families on air that way, from a societal and religious point of views.

And honestly guys, it hit me badly, something is wrong! Something is just wrong, how come I qualify as a judge for those commercial makers, when I was already distracted by the girl next couch?! I mean I've seen no one commenting about her, not her smoking nor nothing!

I mean, don't we all watch 'Friends' and 'Grey's Anatomy'? Don't we all watch movies and video clips for singers that fondle girls on the screen? Don't those reality shows and sitcoms promote *sex* in their core plot lines?

When we go to cinemas, don't we all see families with kids (with kids under 10 for God's sake) watching Adel Emam doing explicit sexual acts on the big screen?

Haven't we all reached the 'I hate censorship' point, because frankly it's not working anymore, the movie with cut scenes is available in the next channel with all of those scenes (with interpretation in Arabic kaman?).

Tampon commercials, those breached homes a long time ago, I remember when I was young, I used to be frustrated at the fact that the shampoo commercial actually had a naked woman in the scene, but I wasn't really frustrated to see a naked woman in a movie that night?

I'm simply contradicting myself, I found out that I go with the wave, and because it's a wave, people gradually accept it and follow through to the next hit, until I finally had the capacity to not regard those as hits in the first place.

Those kinds of dissemination are nothing except presentations of a reality we're living in, a reality that we already chose to accept a part of, only we sometimes try and reject the other part, because I don't know, it collides with some religious, philosophical or societal dilemmas, or whatever, I don't care. What I care about is the part when we already chose to accept some of it in the first place, that's why I find it really confusing when we try and reject the other part.

We're supposed to be seeing the big picture already, the picture that already started to reveal when we chose to loosen the ties a while ago, think about it as a rope, with edges firmly dovetailed to two ends, and it's forming a straight and solid line that won't budge even if it receives strong hits, but someone .. went to an end, and loosened up the tie, what happens to the rope? With the first strong hit, it will fall and perish.

H.A.W & Hicham & Amina, I understand really where you're coming from, you have concerns, you're trying to hold the rope still, I hail you for that. But I just want to make it clear that it's not about a commercial about tampons or condoms or whatever .. it's about the whole big picture.

And I suffered much from people's judgments tending to blame religion for what seems to be an error in how we receive the hits, they quickly question the part we accepted, invalidating instantaneously the part we're rejecting, judging us as preposterous people, making fun of our religious and holy beliefs.

So, I quite believe now, that it's a sign of acumen, to surmount the emotional rejection to a certain hit, and just skip to the part when we state clearly that it's wrong, but despite that, it's not any more wrong than what already is present, and we're trying to protect ourselves, families and children as validly and as possibly as we could without giving much space to who attacks religion and preach irreligion (because those bastards exploit this pitfall skillfully).

I really hope I made my point clear, I'm sorry in advance if I sounded illogical or something but the issue is fairly complicated.

I love you all :)

You guys are wonderfull; after sending my comment this morning, I bet that I'll find a nice conversation when I am back and I was right so hallelujah :)

In addition to what 'amina' and 'H.A.W.' mentioned so let me discuss what 'ibhog' mentioned. The whole big picture is what I meant up, my dear.

My point is simple: should we give up eveything and every value just for following the wave as any media preach? I do believe -even if it's not that clear- that every society should have its own values and concepts, and here I mean morals in 1st place morals of us, Egyptians.

I am very open-minded towards other people regardless thier faith or race, respect every human being, every belief and 'values' of each society but again does this means to blow up mine for following up the wave? ...

I forgot to mention that what is the purpose of any ad in 1st place? It's to "convince you, the client to buy the product". Add this to my 1st + 2nd comment when I aksed should we give up eveything to buy?

And for God sake, we even consume and don't make any prodcut except '3eyal'

I don't mind commercials advertising such products, the point is how they are advertised. This manner is 10 steps ahead of Egyptian society, not that I want Egyptian society to reach this stage. But, yes, we do have double standards with everything unfortunately, more like an Egyptian identity crisis.
