541) The American Idols & Idiots!

video

I am not sure that we have the right to mock as we will be surprized if we asked similar questions to the "ordinary" Egyptians in the street!

We can't consider Americans as idiots; they definitely have a relatively low knowledge about the world when compared to Europeans, but this doesn't mean they are idiots as some people claim. I can't deny there are some super idiots in USA and sometime they become the president for 8 years! but this doesn't deny the fact that the biggest percentage of the people who contributed to the development of the world in the last 100 years were Americans too, they were Idols not idots.

They should try to know more about other nations (as Obama is doing now), and we should help them to get to know more about us, and we should read more about the real America not the Hollywood America as well in order to have a common threshold for a better understanding.

The more understanding, the less problems.. but taking into consideration that there will always be problems!!

Of course Americans are no more stupid than any of the rest of us, but they are certainly a lot more ignorant. This comes because 1) the size of their country is overwhelming 2) They tend to think that only things American are best and 3) Their education system is pretty awful, along with the judiciary and medical service.

Not only Americans ya Mohaly who contributed to the development of the world, what about the Chinese people?u're about to find a guy infront of u when u open the window in the morning telling u hi the air u'r smelling today is: "Made in china"which of course's gonna be very good thing happening to us I think it's not the matter of whom did what?it's the matter of whom wanna be what? all over the world we're gonna find idiots, but that's not the end of the coz on the other hand we can find genius people but just give them the suitable environment to be so...
Americans're so proud of themselves& their country listen to them talking about themselves,or about their country that's the point...
we need to learn& understand them..it's time to wake up you know why?we are all facing the same economy disaster so come on wake up we can do lots of things enough really enough being lazy lets tell all the world that we do exist come ooooooooooooooooooon wake up.

I dunn think Americans are stupid. Its just that they do not get exposure & they do not want to know about anything that is outside their region or is not related to them .
These kind of ppl exist evrywhere its just the percentage of ppl are more in the US. About being superior,US is superpower which doesnt make its people superior it just means it has some advantages which others don't like technological advances, strong financial status, abundant natural resources, and very less population.

Wow, that's a lot of information to digest and metabolize. But I thought I would drop a quick note to say that I totally agree with your first statement "I am not sure that we have the right to mock..."

It reminds me of something that Jesus said in the book of Matthew Chapter 7:1-5

"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment that you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, "Let me take the speck out of your eye," when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."

Americans just need to work on their perception of the rest of the world, this is the idiot part.
But when it comes to freedom and ability to change and develop I guess they are idols.

Well, the two things that came to my mind when I read the last two paragraphs of your post were Barack Obama's interview with Al-Arabia TV and Gamal Mubarak's interview with Fareed Zakaria GPS CNN.

I need to go back and review these two interview transcripts but from my recollection of what I understood from Gamal Mubarak interview is that, on our end, we need to address the issue of extremism, which is a major stumbling block to the peace process (I am paraphrasing here.)

You can find the full interview with Gamal Mubarak at:

In my humble opinion, it is really nice to hear politicians on both sides talk about listening, understanding, mutual respect and interest, but I guess unless we address and sort out our very own internal conflicts between "moderates" and "extremists" and make peace with our selves first, we won't be in a position to reach across the aisle and make peace with the other side.

yes Mona, each party has to start with himself first.
Mohaly, I guess many of the strategies you mentioned in this blog can be used as a start.

mohaly,i totally agree with u never to mock others,u would be really shocked if u asked "ordinary" egyptians the name of their foreign minister let alone any other famous character , however we should never underestimate others.
