498) The Soul-Mate; Is it a Myth?!

Why are we always in a search for our "soul-mate"? Did God create us this way so that we don't rest unless we find each other, or is it just a big myth?!

there isnt just one soulmate for each person, if there were, it would be a disaster!

it's a big world out there, and statistically speaking, what are the odds of finding your soulmate within your tiny part of the world? scary, scary thought!

i think it's a romanticized view of love and relationships, just like the "happily ever after" fairytale endings of books and movies.

a dangerously misleading concept.

i believe that there are compatibility aspects between people, one could get along with a variety of people based on their compatibilities, which vary from one person to another.

in any case, even if soulmates exist, that doesnt change the fact that the relationship will need work, effort, and compromise, because no matter how much 2 people get along, they will have differences in views, opinions and habits.

ya far7eti bel soulmate if he/she's gonna be selfish and refuse to compromise his/her views and way of life.

I think it is the way Allah Create us "و من آياته أن خلق لكم من أنفسكم أزواجا لتسكنوا إليها " that why we won't feel comfort and happy till we find our soul mate

but since we are humans some times we are selfish others we get bored of everything around even the ones we love, I agree with Yamine that the relation needs effort from both sides for life to go on and to make each other feel happy

Well said Yasmin end Mai!!

There is no one soul-mate, begad it is a hollywood version of love..

There is compatibility, suitability, and acceptance.. There is comfort, content and peace.. There is sacrifices, compromises and differences..

The biggest challenge in our "soul-mate" search pursuit is to find our "soul". As you can see from the word construction, finding the "soul" is a prerequisite to finding the "mate." In fact, I think it would be quite an accomplishment for anyone to find their own soul in this life.

Mona I like the way u analyze the word "Soul Mate" (y)

i just remembered a quote from "sex and the city", when Carrie asks Mr. Big, "what do you think of soulmates?"
and his answer was, "well, i like the word 'soul'... and i like the word 'mate'... other than that... you got me!"
and he says "you got me" meaning, "i don't know"

wow, impressive analysis girls specially yasmine!

but why is it everytime I talk about something has to do with love, I find comments from females, and only females?!

i saw the concept of soulmate in real life only twice: Nizar Qabbany- who searched for Belqais for 30 years, married her for 8 years and loved her after she died for 17 years.
second example was Halim. the famous love story, which ended by his lover's death and him "closing"his heart after that.
seems it exists, maybe for some lucky persons only. but are they really lucky? finding ONE person, then spend the rest of their lives lonely? or one love could be just enough for life time?
what people in egypt call nassib, is this it? the soul mate that God created for once and that's it?
but the word has so much more in it, than just marriage.
am i talking nonsense again? :)))

Serendipity is a 2001 romantic comedy, starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale

On a bustling shopping day in winter, Jonathan Trager (John Cusack) meets Sara Thomas (Kate Beckinsale) when both try to buy the same pair of gloves at Bloomingdale's department store. Two strangers amid the masses in New York City, their paths collide in the mad holiday rush as they feel a mutual attraction. Despite the fact that each is involved in another relationship, Jonathan and Sara spend the evening traveling Manhattan. But when the night reaches its inevitable end, the two are forced into determining some kind of next step. When the smitten Jonathan suggests an exchange of phone numbers, Sara balks and proposes an idea that will allow fate to take control of their future. Sara asks Jonathan to write his name and phone number on a $5 dollar bill, while she writes her name and number on the inside cover of a used copy of Love in the Time of Cholera. If they are meant to be together, she tells him, they will find their way back into one another's life.
The majority of the film takes place five years later, and consists largely of repeated "almost coincidences" where the two romantic leads almost, but not quite, meet. (One character is seen walking in to one door of a building at the exact same instant as the other character walks out of a different door in the same building, etc).

sounds interesting, but till end of the movie, i could go crazy from anticipating if they would come together or not :))))))))))))

i so much believe in the myth. even if it's one person in my entire life- would still be happy.whatever Allah has spared for me after that.
still think that having someone special is a gift, not everyone is lucky enough to find- and accept

just like heaven:
Dr. Elizabeth Masterson sits in a pleasant looking garden surrounded by fog. Elizabeth wakes up in a hospital break room/cafeteria where she is told that she fell asleep We learn that her sister is expecting her over for dinner and a blind date. on her way, she calls her sister to apologize for running late. Just then, she sees a truck coming towards her and the screen fades to black.
Cut to David Abbot as he is searching for a fully furnished apartment to lease. As he was about to give up,wind pushes a flier into his face about an apartment they hadn't seen yet. David decides its perfect anyways.
He seems jobless. One day while watching TV, Elizabeth shows up and tells David to leave her apartment. He also sees Elizabeth a couple more times and begins to think that she may be the ghost of someone who used to live there. He goes to an occult bookstore where he meets Darryl, Heder. Darryl gives him some books to read and David goes home to confront Elizabeth.
After not being able to convince her that she is a ghost and her trying to annoy him to the point he'll leave, Darryl says that he can feel Elizabeth and is so strong a spirit that she may not be dead. Darryl also tells David that he needs to let go of the spirit that's hunting him, his wife who passed away.
Darryl leaves and Elizabeth presses David about his wife. Apparently, it has been two years since she died and David is still having trouble moving on. She then says she needs help finding out what happened to her because she can't remember and David says he will help.
They follow some clues and find out that she is in a coma in the hospital where she worked. Also during this time, David explains that he was once a successful architect who specialized in gardens and they go to see some of his work. The garden they end up at is the one that Elizabeth was dreaming about in the beginning of the movie.
After they find Elizabeth's body, David goes home and Elizabeth decides to stay with it. David decides, he wont let her die. They first go talk to Darryl who tells them not to try to figure out how to put Elizabeth back in her body but why only David can see her.Knowing that Elizabeth is going die in the morning, she asks David to just stay up and talk with her. In the morning, David says that he will steal Elizabeth's body so that they can put it somewhere safe because he won't let her die.Enter David driving John's van while they are going to the hospital. Once there, David explains that his imaginary friend is actually alive and is able to convince John of this because John knows Abby. In fact, David was suppose to be the blind date at dinner Elizabeth was going to but David got cold feet and Elizabeth got in a car accident.
As John and David are stealing Elizabeth's body, Brett stops them. While John and David are fleeing security, the respirator keeping Elizabeth alive gets pulled out and she starts to die,her spirit starts to fade. As a last effort, David kisses Elizabeth, which brings her spirit back but is quickly pulled off by security. Elizabeth's spirit fades as David watches. Then, her body comes back to life and she wakes up. Seeing David was able to bring Elizabeth back to life, they let him go. But Elizabeth doesn't remember David. David leaves looking very depressed.
Enter another montage where both Elizabeth and David look sad. When the montage ends, Elizabeth is moving back into her apartment, which David had to leave because he only had it on a month-to-month basis. She says that it feels like something is missing but can't figure out what. While looking around, Elizabeth goes up to the roof where David is just finishing up her garden. David says that he just wanted her to have her garden and that he used the spare key that she had told him about when she was a "ghost". Elizabeth says she knows him but can't remember from where. David says he doesn't want to scare her and begins to leave but stops to give the spare key to her. When they touch, Elizabeth remembers everything and they kiss.

kate and Leopold
In 1876, Leopold Alexis Elijah Walker Gareth Thomas Mountbatten, Duke of Albany and future inventor of the elevator, is a stifled dreamer. Strict Uncle Millard (Paxton Whitehead) has no patience for Leopold's disrespect for the monarchy, chastising him and telling him he must marry a rich American, as the Mountbatten family finances are depleted. His uncle has told him that on his "thirtieth birthday he had become a blemish to the family name".The Duke finds Stuart Besser (Liev Schreiber), an amateur physicist (and descendant of Leopold, according to deleted scenes) perusing his schematic diagrams and taking photographs of them. He had seen him earlier at Roebling's speech about the Brooklyn Bridge. Leopold follows Stuart and tries to save him from what he thinks is a suicide, falling after him into the portal that brought the man there in the first place.Leopold awakens in 21st century New York. He is at first confused and thinks that he has been kidnapped. Stuart says that he has created formulae to forecast portals in the temporal universe and that Leopold must stay inside his apartment until the portal opens again a week later. As Stuart takes his dog out, he is injured by falling into the elevator shaft, and is eventualy institutionalized for speaking about his scientific discovery.Leopold is intrigued by the cynical and ambitious Kate McKay (Meg Ryan), Stuart's ex-girlfriend, who comes to the apartment for her Palm Pilot stylus. He observes that she is a "career woman" and that her field, market research, is a fine avocation for a woman and states that he once dated a librarian from Sussex. Kate dismisses him and demands that he take Stuart's dog for a walk. Leopold is overwhelmed to see that Roebling's bridge is still standing. Back at the apartment, he befriends Charlie (Breckin Meyer), Kate's brother and an actor between gigs, who believes him to be an actor as well, steadfast to his character.Kate and Leopold become romantically involved, as they dine and tour New York. When shooting begins on the commercial in which Leopold has agreed to act, he finds the product disgusting. He cannot understand how Kate would have him endorse a flawed item without qualms, and declares that "when someone is involved in something entirely without merit, one withdraws". Echoing his uncle, Kate says that sometimes one has to do things they don't want to. He chides her about integrity. She retorts, "I don't have time for pious speeches from two hundred year old men who have not worked a day in their life". Their dalliance seems at an end.Stuart escapes from the mental hospital, and while Kate is accepting her promotion at a company banquet, he and Charlie are racing to meet her. Moments before she goes on stage, they arrive and produce pictures from Stuart's camera that show her in 1876. Stuart says that he had thought he disrupted the spacetime continuum, but actually "the whole thing is a beautiful 4-D pretzel of kismetic inevitability".Kate chooses a life with Leopold over her career, and the three of them escape to the Brooklyn Bridge. There, catching the portal before it closes, Kate vanishes into 1876 where Leopold is himself about to announce his bride's name. As he opens his mouth to speak, he sees Kate and announces hers.In the closing scene, they kiss and the camera is drawn outward showing a wall clock hung depicting 12:15.

one very old movie showing an interesting point of view in handling this aspect:
"The promise" 1979 shows an unexplained attraction between 2 young people.
The film tells the rich-boy/poor-girl story of Michael & Nancy, two college students very much in love with one another, much to the chagrin of Micheal’s disapproving mother, Marion. Michael and Nancy, visiting a park, hide a costume jewelry necklace under a large rock, and promise that they will love each other as long as it remains undisturbed (which they of course expect to be forever).they decided to marry in hurry, and on the way to the ceremony, they had a horrible car crash. Michael survives, but is comatose; Nancy got badly hurt, her face completely destroyed. Marion makes a deal with Nancy: she will pay for the best plastic surgeon to make her beautiful (she had been of average appearance before), and finish her education (as an artist) there. The catch is that Nancy must not return to Boston or contact Michael again until he contacts her. Nancy agrees. Marion then tells Michael that Nancy is dead.
Once healed, Michael becomes a successful architect, designing multimillion-dollar business skyscrapers. His company takes a contract to design a building in San Francisco. Seeing a photograph that he admires, he tracks down the artist to ask her to paint a mural for the building's lobby. He doesn't recognize Nancy with her new name and face, but felt a mysterious attraction to this lady. One he couldn’t understand or define- as if he knows her and they are connected in a way. Believing that he had discarded her, Nancy refused any business deals with him and wont even talk to him.
Eventually, she is unable to contain her feelings of abandonment, and flees to the East Coast. Michael sees an unfinished painting, which Nancy had been working on during their romance, and realizes her true identity, then is told that she has gone to Boston. He follows her.
In the climactic scene, Nancy reaches the rock, to discover that the necklace is not there. As she tries to understand, Michael informs her that she can't have it, because it belonged to a friend of his, who he had been told had died in a car crash two years earlier.
