554) Moh@lyics Break II ...

My Dear Readers,

This period is very hard on me after what I have been through during the last couple of days. It is even harder as I am preparing for the discussion of my final dissertation for PhD next week. So I need time to forget the pain, reflect on the changes I am passing through, and focus on the final studies, specially that I will be out of town/country from now till the end of the month.

It is about time to have the 2nd break since I started this blog. I haven't stopped blogging since the last break in December 2007.

After your kind permission: The Blog break starts today, and the Blog will be resumed after 10 days on Monday April 27th 2009 in-shaa-Allah.

You are more than welcome to dig through the blog, comment, or dicuss any topics in the comments area in this post.

Till April 27th, I wish you best of luck, and pray for me. Thank you, and you will be missed.

Mohaly

Per mohaly's suggestion I am raising a topic for discussion

We all have read, shared thoughts, and made use of mohaly's posts and thoughts. Those of you who know him in person (like tamer, merhan, fatima...) know how kind and giving this person is, and those of you who only met him online (like mona, nermine, shaimaa, brownie, ...) knows how serious and sincere he his.
BUT (we ah men But!) this guy who is working to make a positive difference in people's lives need someone to help him to make a positive difference with himself.
Last month I was in Cairo and I spent couple of days with him and realized that the his only source of happiness & strengths comes from his students, trainees, clients, or readers. Other than that, he is so fragile and simple.
I know I talked a lot, but I feel that I owe him, and many of his fellows too. But I/we don't know how to pay him back or how I/we can make him happy?!!

Mona said...

What are you suggesting Omar?

Omar, I have given what you said some thought and I have proposal to make. How about if we throw an imaginary costume party? I have always wanted to experiment with putting someone else's identity on for half a day or so to experience what it's like to be them.

Omar Rostom said...

Jannah: You are so right about people getting me wrong. Yes I do lots of wrong stuff, but I am not an evil or shallow person as my lifestyle may show.
Thanks for your words about "wafaa". When you find a good and sincere friend in these days, it will be complete stupidity to let him go, and mohaly is from this kinds of true friends, he may not talk a lot with you over phone or go out, but his passion doesn't change in years, and when you need him, he will be these as much as he can. So I honestly don't know if wanting to pay him back is because of "wafaa" or because of I can't afford to loose good friends!

I agree with you too that Mama Didi's death will be a turning point in Mohaly's life.

Omar Rostom said...

ya Mona, how can we do that logistically?!

Omar,
We can open this up for discussion and suggestions. One way to do it would be- to have a count of people who would like to participate in the costume party, the roles they would like to play, and then we can set the start and end days of the occasion. For example, Omar may choose to play Mohaly's role and I may choose to play Omar role, Shimaa may choose to play Queen Victoria or someone else, etc.

Omar and whoever may feel compelled to help me understand this:
What do you think of child labor? I mean in scenarios where the children have to work to provide for themselves and their families in developing countries.

Is it morally O.k. or not O.k.? and who is it up to to decide?

I know it is maybe off the topic, but it is something that I have been meditating on for awhile and cannot reach a conclusion.

Yes Gannah, that's exactly what I am asking about. I need to reflect more on the children involvement in the handmade carpet industry thing that you brought up in your comment.

You probably know better than I do that handmade carpets get sold for big bucks all over the world and I am just not sure if the children are being compensated fairly for their time and hard work making these expensive carpets.

Mona said...

Gannah, I just re-read your comment again. Sorry, it always takes me sometime to digest information.

I guess I am not sure if I fully understood what you said and I was curious to learn more about the proposed solution to "Antar Stable" children that you talked about here.

How many hours do these kids spend at work during the day and how many hours do they spend at school? Do these kids have time to study and do their school homework? What kind of education are they getting anyway (quality or mediocre education?) and who is overseeing the children work-study process?

I guess, I am just trying to figure out if this proposed solution could eventually help these children and their families advance and break out of the poverty cycle or it is going to dig all of us into a deeper hole?

http://ra7aya.blogspot.com/2008/07/blog-post.html

http://www.stablantar-dream.com

Hey everyone,
I have a burning question that I cannot hold in any longer, so I am just going to ask it anyway. The bad treatment of women in Egypt has been making the international news for awhile. I mean it is to extent that they are starting to warn female tourists of the danger they will be subjected to during their stay in Egypt.

Do you think it is an exaggeration or it's for real?

It seems to me that Egypt never runs out of major issues to ponder on.
