640) .. and the Misery goes on!

I simply can't understand how can a man in the 21st century deal with his wife through beating her up!

78% of husbands -in Egypt- have beaten their wives either physically or emotionally. The irony is that 65% only of these wives have admitted it !!.....13% were even afraid to admit it!

It is even a chronic crime ... when the children watch this as a normal scene, it becomes part of the their conception about marriage, ... and the misery goes on!

I can't blame the man only, I have to blame the families that apply double standards in raising their boys and girls..... to the extent that some men think of women as a piece of furniture at home, and women accept it coz of "del ragel wala del 7eta".

But it is not about blaming only. The question is: how to prevent this from being passed on to the next generation?

639) Connect the News !

Each of these four pieces of news -that I read on the same day- provoked me to write about, but somehow they are linked together in my brain. It just tell us something about us and the community/ies we are living within, can you figure out the link between these headlines?!

- "Bel Alwan El Tabee3ya" movie is controversial as it is criticizing the mentality of banning and Taboos.

637) Ana El Baradie ya Hosny !

Isn't it ironic that someone with the profile of Dr.Mohamed El Badarie can't serve his country and run for the president?!

The fierce attack on Baradie is not understood! Running for president should be a right for all eligible Egyptians. This attack reminded me of a TV series where a Grand Theif called el Baradie used to give hell to a police officer called Rushi, and used to call him in a certain tone every episode in order to scare him saying: "Ana El Baradie ya Roushdi". Somehow it crossed my mind that Dr.Baradie is calling President Hosny, and telling him in the same deep scary tone: "Ana El Baradie ya Honsy;)"

I am not supporting any yet, but I know that we are on the right path again when I see real elections with real different candidates like Dr.Baradie, Amr Moussa, Hosam Badrawy, Omar Soliman, Gamal Mubarak, and others debating about their real programs, and the choice is for the people at the end.

Am I dreaming ... mesh 2awy, before amending article 76 it was possible, but this article (longest artictle in any constitution in the world) has almost named the presidential candidates of 2011.

In all cases I am happy that there is such talks and debates, bit by bit change can happen ... and one day soon the major change will happen no matter how long they planned.

636) Knowing What Women Want ... Hmm !

Do you remember the romantic comedy "What Women Want" production of 2000, starring Mel Gibson, and Helen Hunt?

I was just wondering:

1. Will it be a blessing or a curse for a guy to hear what is inside women's mind?
2. Will women be happy about finding a guy who finally understands them, or they rather enjoy the mutual mystery with all its painful mis-communication and mis-understanding problems?

634) The Swiss Minaret !

I have visited Switzerland before, and I loved the country and people too. I got the feeling that they have chosen the hardest option of being unbaised and respected them for such challenge.

I hoped that the swiss people have had proven to the world how unbiased and coherent they are, and instead of voting against building minarets, they could have simply voted for having the most prominent swiss product "Clocks" fixed over each new minaret -check the picture-. It can be a beautiful architecture holding a practical instrument that can be of benefit for everyone without positiong it as a "Muslim Missile"!

It seems that sinning is a fact that we have to deal with. No matter what precautions we take, we always keep sinning in one way or another. I won't ask about how to stop sinning coz I don't think there is a practical answer to this question, but I will ask What are the sins that you consider the 7 deadly sins?

630) Masr lel Masryeen!

I just can't get rid of the taste of bitterness that is overwhelming me. I feel that my country is being rapped and I can't do anything. It is not about Algeria, it is about everything. When I see the reaction of the world, I feel that we are now positioned as a bug that everyone is either happy, or in best case doesn't bother about it.

We are hitting bottom big time... There must be a way up. Khalas, it is about time to admit that we are nothing and we have to work on being something again, not impossible, not late, IF & ONLY IF we are serious about it.. or else let's contine whinnying and talking to each other, and "nakhod 3ala 2afana" today from Algeria, and tomorrow from the rest of the world.

It is about time to focus on us and our country, bala 3arab, bala israel, ... It is about us Masr & Masrians (I am not using Egypt as the name of our country, it is Masr, not even Misr, that is how we Masreen say it, Masr).

628) Stop ... Think ... & Act!

I am just wondering how can we keep such spirit of loving the country and unifying under its name & flag that has been there for more than a whole month? I havent heard people whinning about life or Ahly/Zamalek problems or, or, or.. Is it because we found a common enemy to guide all our negative feelings at? or because there is one common goal for the 80 million which something that doesnt happen in real life? or because we are just fed up with everything and decided to celebrate together no matter what?

The match is on now, and I am one of the few people in the country who are not watching. Regardless of the final score and who will go to the world cup, I really wish that we stop and think how can we make use of what happened, how can we invest in and reflect on our day to day life as a country?

should you:
1) take the risk of moving a step forward and become a couple (dating) accepting the risk of success or failure afterwards,
2)or you wait till you are sure of everything and then take (or not take) an official step, and risking the lose of the interest itself?

626) Beyoncé ... Beyoncé !!

Last weekend there was a huge party for the American superstar Beyoncé in Marsa Allam. Many people who don't even know or have seen here were trying to stop this party for moral reasons, there was even a fatwa that "Beyoncé is 7aram" but that is not the issue of this post (was already discussed in a previous one).

The issue is that Beyoncé fees was $1,500,000 for 90 mins; ya3ne about $16,600 per minute; ya3nee about $270 per second.

So by the time you have read this post, and had a glimpse at her photo in the party, the 28 years old star has made about $10000 (make it $20000 if you stared at the picture ;)

625) 7adeeth El Saba7 wal Masaa !!!

What will happen to Egypt if its national football team win 14/11 match and joins the world cup? It may be a problem in my vision, but I still can't see why it is sooooooooooooooooo important that we win this match, and why all this time, effort, energy (fights),..etc are being wasted?

check some links in just 1 website:

http://www.masrawy.com/News/Egypt/Sports/2009/november/4/algeria_egypt.aspx

I am definately cheering for Egypt, I even will allow my students to leave 30 mins early to watch the match, but I still can't see why is it as important as October war (as some papers have written)?! Does this mean if Algeria wins, it will be another Naksa that will take another 40 years to fix its consequences.

I am wondering that we have reached a stage where I wish that we take our work as seroius as we are dealing with football issues!

P.S. I have witnessed Egypt in World Cup 1990, and I wish that we win 3-0 and see the Egyptians happy, this doesn't happen a lot.

624) Ya 3eni 3al Walad ... wel Balad kaman!

If the minister of Transportation has resigned as a reaction for the train crash tragedy, I think the minsiter of social affairs -or whatever they call it these days- should resign 10 times because there are some Egyptians left to lose their lives for 100 pounds. Morever, till when will we accept making fools of ourselves just to get the Arabs' money? whether through renting our females bodies or even throwing ourselves in the Nile -as per the below piece of news- to gain 100 pounds from some few sick-minded Arabs who kept watching and getting it on video.
Justice says that they should be charged of plotting for murder as they were the ones who pushed him to jump and he doesnt know how to swim. I bet they will just sign some papers and then go home to upload the video of the poor guy while jumping, and plan for the next poor Egyptian victim.

623) Being Yourself ::: Epsisode 9 - The Mask!

This contrbution I got from one of this blog stars; Ibhog. It is discussing the frequency of how often do you manage to express how you feel?

"When you feel sad, disappointed, appalled, happy, vulnerable, scared, hopeful, mortified, offended, wronged, low, angry, inappropriate, expecting, embarrassed, love, hate, compassion, admiration .. etc. Do you manage to communicate your feelings? (notice that I listed variably to widen the perspective).
In your opinion, how much does failing to express feelings the right way affect our quality of lives as individuals?
And last, how should we learn to express them? and .. what obstacles shall we face?
ibhog,"

It is a very hard question coz it is not easy to show all what you feel even with a blunt person like me. I have conveyed and reflected many feelings, but these days I have been carrying many beautiful, sweet on a side, and negative feelings on the other and wanna explode in both directions and simply can't coz the consequences can be painful and regretful. Is it easy to take off the mask, or has it become part of our faces?

620) Sexual Frustration in Egypt!

You may expect a long post for such title, but I just have very quick related questions that may lead to much longer answers, and may be other parts of the post:

1. Are Egyptians (in general) sexually frustrated whether they are married or not?
2. Why?
3. What kind of effect this frustration (if yes) has on the quality of life in this country specially Cairo?

619) What Women Wear !

Why does the whole society have an issue with what women wear?!!!
If women wear according to fashion, they are too fashionable and airheads.
If they wear sleeveless shirts or mini-skirts, they are provoking the men and unmarried youth.
If they almost don't wear anything (video-clips), they are simply "sluts".
If they wear pants, they look like men.
If they wear Hijab, they are not as good as they trying to show and it doesn't hinder them of doing what they want.
If they wear Niqab, they are terrorists and threatening the liberal potentials & security in Egypt.

Why is it so important to have all these articles, fights, programs, books,....etc about what women wear. They will never wear the same uniform, and even if they do, there will be people fighting to change it (e.g. Iran), and others just have it as a social obligation and that is it (e.g. Saudi)...At the end what I wanna say is that everyone knows what is right and what is wrong, and everyone should do what suits her without hurting others, we shouldn't spend -actually waste- so much time about women's wear, and it just leads not nothing except more problems and more time waste.

618) Being Yourself :: Episode 8: Being Clean!

Being a clean person is shirnking in this country to the extent that normal acts of cleanliness is now considered as part of the precautions of an pandemic! (see 570)
The problem is that many people I have seen myself -including me- are sometimes mocked at because they take an action against this anti-cleanliness campaign, and unfortunately some of them just can't be themselves and back-off.
Why? afraid from others, just don't want problem,...etc. Whatever the reason is. If you are a clean person, and you want to see your house, car, street, garden...etc clean.... JUST BE YOURSELF and do what you feel right about it even if people didnt agree or even mocked you. I did it once and went cleaning the middle sidewalk in the street, people were looking at me like an alien, SO WHAT, but by the end of the day, at least I am enjoying a clean middle sidewalk even if it lasts for couple of days, and those who know me and have seen me doing it, they didnt dare to make it dirty at least infront of me. Things don't get dirty by itself, but through those who throw stuff, and others who don't take an action or even object.

BE YOURSELF.... BE CLEAN

P.S. I am dedicating this post to someone who really deserves it the most; Blog Reader Maha Aly, thank you Maha for being clean and being proud of it even if annoys others.

617) Being Yourself :: Episode 7 - Eating !

I remember an Egyptian proverb saying: Kol eli ye3gebak we elbesh eli ye3geb el nas (although i see that elbes kaman eli ye3gebak), i.e eat what you want and wear what others will like.. so I wonder why people push others to eat stuff or quanitities that they don't want. What is wrong in saying sorry I am full or sorry I like to eat vegetables...etc. Why do some people (especially older ones) take it as an insult if we didnt taste every single plate on the table! Be Yourself, and only eat what you want with the quantity you feel adequate.

616) Being Yourself :: Episode 6 - Being a Woman!

This is some of the questions I got from a friend and a blog reader (R.M.) related to women being themselves. I though of having them on different posts, but then I decided to have them all in one post as they are all related to women and their freedom of expression and being themselves. I think the best way to comment on this episode is in points (1,2,3,4).
Mohaly

Quick Translation for blog english-readers:
1. Why do some parents oblige their daughters to wear hijab while others oblige them not to, why don't they leave it to their personal choice.
2. Why do some people exaggerated welcoming words when meeting someone whom they really don't care that much about?
3. Why does the girl who understand the value of time accept on going on the phone for hours without apologizing to the caller and hanging up?
4. Why do some women fight for equality? why don't they accept the differences between genders, it is like the difference between day and night, both needed!
