867) The Year of Contradictions .. !

I am writing this post to myself, and have no idea why I am publishing it.

I don't find it ironic to have my first post this year on its last day .. It has been the year of contradictions. That wasn't a year, that was a whole decade.
2016, my 40th year, the unprecedented year on all macro and micro levels..

The year I have been to more than 10 countries and 20 cities in Egypt and Abroad...where I lectured, networked, and mingled with more than a thousand person professionally, in museums, carnivals...etc, it should have ended up leaving me full of energy to give more..
BUT it was the year where I had a new record in romantic relationships that ended up leaving me in pain and wondering what's right and what's wrong, and sucked up all my energy to even go out from home.. and USD just killed my future travel plans where I used to get my energy from.

It was the year I represented Egypt in global conferences, lectured in London Business School, and had so much success on the professional level ..
BUT it was sucked up by losing more than half my income and savings in few weeks..

It is the year that I was at a point in time training as if I am entering Olympics with excellent health and shape ..
BUT the year that ended not moving out of my room except to work where I gained extra 8 kilos at the end of it!

It is a year that is full of everything in its 1st 8 months, and full of nothing in the last 4 months.

At the end of the 40th year, I am not surrendering, I am not giving up... I may not have the enough energy and encouragement / motivation, but I still have the believe that I still can ..
I still can make a difference with people, and fulfill my mission ..
I still can compensate for the money I lost, yes I am 10 years back in financial status but I am the one who made that money, and I will be the one regaining it ISA.
I still can find my long waited for partner, yes I am scarred, and exhausted, but I will continue searching for love till I find it even if I am 80 not 40.
I still can push myself again and re-engage in the healthy routine to keep my in good health and shape. I did it before, and can do it again..

I still believe in myself ... It is just getting much harder than before specially on my own without a partner or someone to share success and pain with .. but I have no regrets, and will work hard to stay so.

2017 .. I won't wait for you to be a happy new year .. I will work hard to keep you away of being an unhappy one.

Welcome 2017, you have been warned.

836) My Year of Extremes .. !

So, it is my birthday again (tomorrow the 27th) ... A whole year has passed with all its beautiful, hot, ugly, and sad moments. It deserves to be called the Year of Extremes ..

The year of hope, the year of despair ..
The year of love, the year of hate ..
The year of bonding, the year of break-up ..
The year of honor, the year of disgrace ..
The year of success, the year of failure ..
The year of courage, the year of fear ..
The year that changed me deep from within ..

That last year wasn't a year, it was many years combined ...
Another year is starting and challenging me with new goals, ideas, and resolutions..The good thing that I am starting my new year with feeling more like a mature man; confident, loving himself and others, and deeply believe that he still can make a difference.

So I am wishing myself a Happy Birthday :)

* * *

* * *

832) Which Answer is Right?!

Over the past week, some of the readers said enough with politics, while others said we need you to write more about it. So, let's read together this story about differences in perceptions and views, and you can either just enjoy the story, or reflect it on politics.

"Several citizens ran into a hot argument about Life & Creator, and each one could not agree to a common answer. So they came to Buddha to find out what exactly Life is. Buddha asked his disciples to get a large magnificent elephant and four blind men. He then brought the blind men to the elephant and told them to find out what the elephant would “look” like.

The first blind men touched the elephant leg and reported that it “looked” like a pillar. The second blind man touched the elephant tummy and said that an elephant was a wall. The third blind man touched the elephant ear and said that it was a piece of cloth. The fourth blind man hold on to the tail and described the elephant as a piece of rope. And all of them ran into a hot argument about the “appearance” of an elephant.
Buddha asked the citizens: “Each blind man had touched the elephant but each of them gives a different description of the animal. Which answer is right?”"
Now, we do love and see Egypt in many ways and forms and have different answers to the same question; How can Egypt rise and be better?! So Which answer is right? Actually all of them are, but all together. The only way for us to see the path to a better Egypt is to see it together. The Elephant was bigger than all the  blind men, and Egypt is bigger than its parties and sects.

827) Egypt ... Deal or No Deal ?!!!

President or No President, Constitution or No Constitution, Government or No Government, Parliament or No Parliament, Trails or No Trials, Protests or No Protests .... Simply everything and its exact opposite that I am afraid one day it is going To Be or Not to Be. Egypt became a big darkroom where groups of blind people are left together going in ALL directions and NO direction at the same time !!.. Everybody is running, shouting, and even stepping on others, although we are in a deep need to hold hands and find our way up to switch on the light.

After 20 months from the 25th of Jan "Revolution", things are not only in complete unrest, but also the vision, path and even the vehicle are not clear at all.. Each group is living in a separate schizophrenic bubble where they only talk and don't even listen to their own words to the extent that"Contradictions" can easily win the best title for such stage... Liberals aren't liberal enough to accept differences, Salafi's are not following the right Salaf in dealing with others, and socialists are not doing any benefit on any social level,  Ekhwan are not tolerant enough to deal with such huge responsibility that they cant handle alone and where they failed to get Egyptians to be "Ekhwan" in this nation.. Even felool, you can't accurately describe what is meant by the term anymore!!! Simply Every Thing and Its opposite...Kol 7aga wel 3aks!

This is the situation about almost everything in Egypt now ... So is it a Deal or No Deal?! The problem is there is no one offering a DEAL; however, everybody is saying NO DEAL !!!

743) E3terafat Mohaly Part 5 ::: Bab El Naggar !

I do always like to help my friends, students, readers, colleagues, to get through their problems, and do my best to give them the right piece of advice. Thank God it always works even though sometimes I am sure 100% it will. However, year after year, I started feeling that I am finding trouble in thinking, analysing and taking all my decisions myself till I have reached a point during the past couple of weeks that I can't take it anymore.. I need a mentor, reference, someone I can trust his/her opinion and knows me well to give me a sincere advice.

Bab El Naggar Mekhala3 .... is the phrase that pops into my mind many times during the past weeks. I can help the people and succeed, and can't do it for myself anymore!

739) Hegab Nos Kom !

This picture was taken in Hurghada. While I was editing the original bigger picture, I realized this lady in the background, and couldn't help wondering "why the scarf?". For the million time, I am not against the right of women to wear Hegab, but such images I really can't comprehend or understand !!!!

P.S. there is another clearer picture but the lady's face was appearing, and hence I didn't post it for the respect of her anonymity.

725) Rushing Your Life ::: A Matter of Perception !

A beautiful Email I got, and I wanna share it with you and know your opinion
Mohaly

In Washington DC, at a Metro Station, on a cold January morning in 2007, this man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 60 minutes.  During that time, approximately 2,000 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.  After about 3 minutes, a middle-aged man noticed that there was a musician playing.  He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds, and then he hurried on to meet his schedule.
About 4 minutes later: The violinist received his first dollar.  A woman threw money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.
At 6 minutes: A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.
At 10 minutes:A 3-year old boy stopped, but his mother tugged him along hurriedly.  The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head the whole time.  This action was repeated by several other children, but every parent - without exception - forced their children to move on quickly.
At 45 minutes:The musician played continuously.  Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while.  About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace.  The man collected a total of $32.
After 1 hour: He finished playing and silence took over.  No one noticed and no one applauded.  There was no recognition at all.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world.  He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a Stradivarius violin worth $3.5 million dollars.  Two days before, Joshua Bell sold-out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100 each to sit and listen to him play the same music.

This is a true story.  Joshua Bell, playing incognito in the DC Metro Station, was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities.

Questions:
1)In a common-place environment, at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?
If so, do we stop to appreciate it?
2)Do we recognise talent in an unexpected context?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this:
If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made . . .

How many other things are we missing as we rush through life?

724) The Road to Hell & the Good Intensions!

The Road to Hell is paved with Good Intensions..1855 H. G. Bohn

I remember this quote everytime I read about something Dr.Ahmed Zaky Badr does or says. This man is saying a lot of stuff that makes good sense and really need to be implemented to save our sinking and stinking Educational "System". However, everytime he decides upon changing it, he chooses the worst tactic that just lead to more and more problems.

Some quick examples:
Teachers and Students have to be attending school from first to last day.... For sure, but The Schools have to be clean, fixed, and equipped first in order to make this happen... Why do you start by the result and leave the cause.
Teachers and Students should use the school book and syllabus to study and train... Of course, but when the school book is well prepared, organized, understood, ...etc as some of the external books do, then you can prohibit the use of them and only use the school book (i'd rather call reference book).
Teachers should not be delivering private lessons...Can't agree more, but do people have a real option, do they have reasonable class sizes, enough teachers, do teachers get tempting salaries...etc?

What I wanna say is that if he only focused on the infrastructure of the Educational System for the next 2 years, it will automatically develop, people will be less resistant to change, and your job will be much easier than in implementing your development strategies, but I am afraid that after couple of years from now all what we remember is your continuous fights and appearance in all sorts of media.

Education is our Nation's most serious challenge and a double-sided weapon that can be the reason for our development OR our mass destruction in the near future.

I am Egyptian ...

Ana Masry ...

What do you feel when you say that?

In other words Law Sa2ltak Enta Masry te2oli eih?

Do you feel Proud? ... Challenged? .... Frustrated? .... Worried?....or you simply don't care? or even worse you are Ashamed?

I am personally having a mix of all these feelings..
Proud of the ability to survive all these years and all these challenges
Challenged to make any difference
Frustrated coz I can't see any real development
Worried about the future and our kids
Don't care about the fictional democracy and meaningless speeches
and Ashamed of what we have become in &  to the world.

Am I being Pessimistic? or I am just as Realistic as it gets and dreaming of a major change coming soon !!

709) Fawazeer Ramadan - Kahraba !

Why do we have irregular electricity cut-off in Ramadan? and if it is necessary, why dont they schedule it instead of the daily loss of equipment and data?

Just a small paragraph about the only case when they cut off electricity in UK because the user didn't pay the bill, read and respect...

Cut-Off Process Information

The basic process is that if you don’t pay a bill, the electricity supplier will give you 28 days between sending a bill and sending a notice to disconnect you. They must then wait at least seven days before coming in to perform the cut-off. That basically gives you only five weeks between receiving a bill and being cut off.

In reality these dates are minimum figures and it's very rare that anyone would be cut off in that short a period of time. After all, the energy companies would rather have money coming in from a customer than a cut-off customer who then pays nothing.

Compare this to what is said here in Egypt for people who fully pay their bills: Click Here

I really wanna know the answer.

708) Real Fawazeer; Living in Egypt !

Blog reader Reem was asking me about Fawazeer Ramadan that I used to post every year on Moh@lyics.
Actually I wasnt ready to start it yet, but I have read this on one of my very dear friends page, and thought it is a real fazoura in Egypt/

"We live in a Country Where Pizza reaches home faster than an Ambulance. Where U get a Car Loan @ 8% but an Education Loan @ 12%. Where Rice costs 40LE, but Sim cards cost nothing, Footwears that we wear, are sold in AC showrooms but vegetables that we eat are sold on the pavement..Where we make Lemon Juice with artificialflavours and dish washing fluids with pure lemon". Mohamed El Ammawy.

It is a real fazoura!

703) Work Hard, and Get Less !

Working 70 hours per week, having many prestigious jobs in reputable organizations, keeping good connections with everyone, even having a good income ... all of this don't prevent you from getting poorer every year. Yes the overall income may increase, but its value decreases due to the inflation monster, and crazy prices ending up with more amount but much less value.
How come a simple house (not a villa) is for 2,000,000 LE while it was less than 40% of this amount couple of years ago!! How come a quick visit to any cafe (Costa, Cilantro, Star Bucks...) costs 50 LE in average? Cars (that is another story starting with minimum of 100,000 LE), clothes, food, accessories, anything just name it is just going up even if there is no demand...

Prices are jumping up and no matter more work done, or even more fees gained, the one is getting more and more poor in terms of purchase power. Tab3an El hamdullah for everything but working hard and moving down the ladder is disappointing...

This is just fadfada, I am not cursing the society and country circumstances...etc I am statisfied with what I make and the life I lead but can't even see how can I maintain that in the future with such crazy random increases. I am just wondering what did I do wrong in my career to end up with such financial disappointment?!

It seems that the new Slogan is; "Leih Tedfa3 A2al Lama Momken Te2bad Aktar ?!"

701) Taxi ... Sorry, it is for Women only !!

Why do all the signs indicate that we are heading into the separation of the society between males and females. Females cars in Metro, female queues, female hours in some services, female only restaurants (like Hanan Turk's one), and lately female only taxi (check). I wonder what else will be female only!

I am not against women having their privacy for one reason or another, but I am afraid one day - especially with the fake religious and wahabi waves invading our society- to wake up and find Cairo another Riyadh!

678) "On the Stay" !

I have been wondering lately about the status of "On the Run". I thought from the name, it is a quick-buy shop where the average time stay doesn't exceed 5 mins at most. However, it has been lately noticed that it is always crowded and people may spend 30 mins or more socializing there although the place is not designed or capable of handling all these people for that long! The amazing part is that its current FM Radio campaign has a slogan saying "2abelni Henak" which means Let's meet-up there which I see totally contradicting with the cocept of "On the Run"... Why?!
I am suggesting that it will be more realistic and matching to what is really happening  if it changed its name to "On the Stay"... 2abelni henak ;)

669) The "Peace Process" ... Save the Killer!
