640) .. and the Misery goes on!

I simply can't understand how can a man in the 21st century deal with his wife through beating her up!

78% of husbands -in Egypt- have beaten their wives either physically or emotionally. The irony is that 65% only of these wives have admitted it !!.....13% were even afraid to admit it!

It is even a chronic crime ... when the children watch this as a normal scene, it becomes part of the their conception about marriage, ... and the misery goes on!

I can't blame the man only, I have to blame the families that apply double standards in raising their boys and girls..... to the extent that some men think of women as a piece of furniture at home, and women accept it coz of "del ragel wala del 7eta".

But it is not about blaming only. The question is: how to prevent this from being passed on to the next generation?

637) Ana El Baradie ya Hosny !

Isn't it ironic that someone with the profile of Dr.Mohamed El Badarie can't serve his country and run for the president?!

The fierce attack on Baradie is not understood! Running for president should be a right for all eligible Egyptians. This attack reminded me of a TV series where a Grand Theif called el Baradie used to give hell to a police officer called Rushi, and used to call him in a certain tone every episode in order to scare him saying: "Ana El Baradie ya Roushdi". Somehow it crossed my mind that Dr.Baradie is calling President Hosny, and telling him in the same deep scary tone: "Ana El Baradie ya Honsy;)"

I am not supporting any yet, but I know that we are on the right path again when I see real elections with real different candidates like Dr.Baradie, Amr Moussa, Hosam Badrawy, Omar Soliman, Gamal Mubarak, and others debating about their real programs, and the choice is for the people at the end.

Am I dreaming ... mesh 2awy, before amending article 76 it was possible, but this article (longest artictle in any constitution in the world) has almost named the presidential candidates of 2011.

In all cases I am happy that there is such talks and debates, bit by bit change can happen ... and one day soon the major change will happen no matter how long they planned.

Do you remember the romantic comedy "What Women Want" production of 2000, starring Mel Gibson, and Helen Hunt?

I was just wondering:

1. Will it be a blessing or a curse for a guy to hear what is inside women's mind?
2. Will women be happy about finding a guy who finally understands them, or they rather enjoy the mutual mystery with all its painful mis-communication and mis-understanding problems?

I have visited Switzerland before, and I loved the country and people too. I got the feeling that they have chosen the hardest option of being unbaised and respected them for such challenge.

I hoped that the swiss people have had proven to the world how unbiased and coherent they are, and instead of voting against building minarets, they could have simply voted for having the most prominent swiss product "Clocks" fixed over each new minaret -check the picture-. It can be a beautiful architecture holding a practical instrument that can be of benefit for everyone without positiong it as a "Muslim Missile"!

630) Masr lel Masryeen!

I just can't get rid of the taste of bitterness that is overwhelming me. I feel that my country is being rapped and I can't do anything. It is not about Algeria, it is about everything. When I see the reaction of the world, I feel that we are now positioned as a bug that everyone is either happy, or in best case doesn't bother about it.

We are hitting bottom big time... There must be a way up. Khalas, it is about time to admit that we are nothing and we have to work on being something again, not impossible, not late, IF & ONLY IF we are serious about it.. or else let's contine whinnying and talking to each other, and "nakhod 3ala 2afana" today from Algeria, and tomorrow from the rest of the world.

It is about time to focus on us and our country, bala 3arab, bala israel, ... It is about us Masr & Masrians (I am not using Egypt as the name of our country, it is Masr, not even Misr, that is how we Masreen say it, Masr).

628) Stop ... Think ... & Act!

I am just wondering how can we keep such spirit of loving the country and unifying under its name & flag that has been there for more than a whole month? I havent heard people whinning about life or Ahly/Zamalek problems or, or, or.. Is it because we found a common enemy to guide all our negative feelings at? or because there is one common goal for the 80 million which something that doesnt happen in real life? or because we are just fed up with everything and decided to celebrate together no matter what?

The match is on now, and I am one of the few people in the country who are not watching. Regardless of the final score and who will go to the world cup, I really wish that we stop and think how can we make use of what happened, how can we invest in and reflect on our day to day life as a country?

626) Beyoncé ... Beyoncé !!

Last weekend there was a huge party for the American superstar Beyoncé in Marsa Allam. Many people who don't even know or have seen here were trying to stop this party for moral reasons, there was even a fatwa that "Beyoncé is 7aram" but that is not the issue of this post (was already discussed in a previous one).

The issue is that Beyoncé fees was $1,500,000 for 90 mins; ya3ne about $16,600 per minute; ya3nee about $270 per second.

So by the time you have read this post, and had a glimpse at her photo in the party, the 28 years old star has made about $10000 (make it $20000 if you stared at the picture ;)

625) 7adeeth El Saba7 wal Masaa !!!

What will happen to Egypt if its national football team win 14/11 match and joins the world cup? It may be a problem in my vision, but I still can't see why it is sooooooooooooooooo important that we win this match, and why all this time, effort, energy (fights),..etc are being wasted?

check some links in just 1 website:

http://www.masrawy.com/News/Egypt/Sports/2009/november/4/algeria_egypt.aspx

I am definately cheering for Egypt, I even will allow my students to leave 30 mins early to watch the match, but I still can't see why is it as important as October war (as some papers have written)?! Does this mean if Algeria wins, it will be another Naksa that will take another 40 years to fix its consequences.

I am wondering that we have reached a stage where I wish that we take our work as seroius as we are dealing with football issues!

If the minister of Transportation has resigned as a reaction for the train crash tragedy, I think the minsiter of social affairs -or whatever they call it these days- should resign 10 times because there are some Egyptians left to lose their lives for 100 pounds. Morever, till when will we accept making fools of ourselves just to get the Arabs' money? whether through renting our females bodies or even throwing ourselves in the Nile -as per the below piece of news- to gain 100 pounds from some few sick-minded Arabs who kept watching and getting it on video.
Justice says that they should be charged of plotting for murder as they were the ones who pushed him to jump and he doesnt know how to swim. I bet they will just sign some papers and then go home to upload the video of the poor guy while jumping, and plan for the next poor Egyptian victim.

623) Being Yourself ::: Epsisode 9 - The Mask!

This contrbution I got from one of this blog stars; Ibhog. It is discussing the frequency of how often do you manage to express how you feel?

"When you feel sad, disappointed, appalled, happy, vulnerable, scared, hopeful, mortified, offended, wronged, low, angry, inappropriate, expecting, embarrassed, love, hate, compassion, admiration .. etc. Do you manage to communicate your feelings? (notice that I listed variably to widen the perspective).
In your opinion, how much does failing to express feelings the right way affect our quality of lives as individuals?
And last, how should we learn to express them? and .. what obstacles shall we face?
ibhog,"

It is a very hard question coz it is not easy to show all what you feel even with a blunt person like me. I have conveyed and reflected many feelings, but these days I have been carrying many beautiful, sweet on a side, and negative feelings on the other and wanna explode in both directions and simply can't coz the consequences can be painful and regretful. Is it easy to take off the mask, or has it become part of our faces?

619) What Women Wear !

Why does the whole society have an issue with what women wear?!!!
If women wear according to fashion, they are too fashionable and airheads.
If they wear sleeveless shirts or mini-skirts, they are provoking the men and unmarried youth.
If they almost don't wear anything (video-clips), they are simply "sluts".
If they wear pants, they look like men.
If they wear Hijab, they are not as good as they trying to show and it doesn't hinder them of doing what they want.
If they wear Niqab, they are terrorists and threatening the liberal potentials & security in Egypt.

Why is it so important to have all these articles, fights, programs, books,....etc about what women wear. They will never wear the same uniform, and even if they do, there will be people fighting to change it (e.g. Iran), and others just have it as a social obligation and that is it (e.g. Saudi)...At the end what I wanna say is that everyone knows what is right and what is wrong, and everyone should do what suits her without hurting others, we shouldn't spend -actually waste- so much time about women's wear, and it just leads not nothing except more problems and more time waste.

618) Being Yourself :: Episode 8: Being Clean!

Being a clean person is shirnking in this country to the extent that normal acts of cleanliness is now considered as part of the precautions of an pandemic! (see 570)
The problem is that many people I have seen myself -including me- are sometimes mocked at because they take an action against this anti-cleanliness campaign, and unfortunately some of them just can't be themselves and back-off.
Why? afraid from others, just don't want problem,...etc. Whatever the reason is. If you are a clean person, and you want to see your house, car, street, garden...etc clean.... JUST BE YOURSELF and do what you feel right about it even if people didnt agree or even mocked you. I did it once and went cleaning the middle sidewalk in the street, people were looking at me like an alien, SO WHAT, but by the end of the day, at least I am enjoying a clean middle sidewalk even if it lasts for couple of days, and those who know me and have seen me doing it, they didnt dare to make it dirty at least infront of me. Things don't get dirty by itself, but through those who throw stuff, and others who don't take an action or even object.

BE YOURSELF.... BE CLEAN

617) Being Yourself :: Episode 7 - Eating !

I remember an Egyptian proverb saying: Kol eli ye3gebak we elbesh eli ye3geb el nas (although i see that elbes kaman eli ye3gebak), i.e eat what you want and wear what others will like.. so I wonder why people push others to eat stuff or quanitities that they don't want. What is wrong in saying sorry I am full or sorry I like to eat vegetables...etc. Why do some people (especially older ones) take it as an insult if we didnt taste every single plate on the table! Be Yourself, and only eat what you want with the quantity you feel adequate.

616) Being Yourself :: Episode 6 - Being a Woman!

This is some of the questions I got from a friend and a blog reader (R.M.) related to women being themselves. I though of having them on different posts, but then I decided to have them all in one post as they are all related to women and their freedom of expression and being themselves. I think the best way to comment on this episode is in points (1,2,3,4).
Mohaly

Quick Translation for blog english-readers:
1. Why do some parents oblige their daughters to wear hijab while others oblige them not to, why don't they leave it to their personal choice.
2. Why do some people exaggerated welcoming words when meeting someone whom they really don't care that much about?
3. Why does the girl who understand the value of time accept on going on the phone for hours without apologizing to the caller and hanging up?
4. Why do some women fight for equality? why don't they accept the differences between genders, it is like the difference between day and night, both needed!

615) Bright Side - Episode 3 ::: Egypt Car Poolers!

I know that I haven't added any new episodes in this series for more than a year but there weren't much to write about then. I was tempted to add a 3rd episode to this series when I found out about this good initiative and spirit. When I finish Being Yourself Series, I will try to add more episodes to the Bright Side of Egypt.. we need to see more of this side of the country...

I am glad that there are positive initiatives of young people (Hisham A.Wahab, Hind Rasid...)who made use of their brains and skills in trying to make a positive change in their society. We all know that the traffic problem in Cairo has reached a level that is beyond normal and abnormal tolerance. These young group has worked hard since summer 2008 to finally launch their website promoting Car pooling in Cairo that reduces both traffic and pollution.

I am quoting the initiator Hisham Abdel Wahab:

"For those of you who don’t know, www.egyptcarpoolers.com is Egypt’s first online carpooling community! The website aims to promote carpooling in Egypt by creating a forum where potential carpoolers can connect and coordinate rides.

Anything to reduce the traffic :)!!

Feel free to sign up and forward to friends. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

On the occasion of 6th October, I am asking all those who love Egypt unconditionally to speak up and not to be afraid of being mocked at. How did we reach this stage? How come people beacme afraid or ashamed of saying that they respect the national anthem or feel bad when they see a dirty or torn flag? How come they are hesitant to say that they love Egypt and are willing to give time, money, and effort for its sake?

How eih el 7asal, is being patriotic considered a crime now, or something to be ashamed of? May be coz the country is down? That should be even a bigger motivation coz true love is tested in down times not when everything is ok. If you love someone, he/she needs you more when he/she is down, wala eih?

611) Being Yourself :: Episode 4 - Social Obligs!

I know that many people may attack me for this post, but that is my opinion, I have to be myself :)

One of the things that provokes me especially in the Arab Culture that people spend sooooooooooo much time in what they call "social obligations" where:
- they visit people they dont wanna visit or dont wanna visit now,
- eat something that they don't wanna eat (and sometimes say wow delecius!),
- sometimes travel to places they dont wanna go with people that they dont wanna travel with,
- inviting people that they dont wanna invite to their home, or even receiving them without prior notice and showing that you are ok!
- and many others (you name it) where you give this poker face (wesh gebs)!

Half of my quarrels with my family is because of "social obligations", look at the word OBLIGATION, 7aga mostafeza!! and everything is just FAKE, hugs, smiles, talk, everything EXCEPT the time passing that will never comeback :(

How can I wake up and decide upon the face I am gonna wear for today's event!!! Why can't I just be myself?!

What will happen if we decided to do what we feel comfortable with and be ourselves WITHOUT BEING RUDE? What will happen if I appoloiged to someone that I cant go out today or I cant recieve him/her in my home today, or that I can't eat heavy stuff, or , or , or.
Will they get mad at me? from my own personal experience, may be for a while, but then people will know that IT IS YOU, and that is who you are and how you wanna lead your life. Believe me, I tried it and people still like me, but without having to be -most the time- doing stuff that I don't wanna do.

610) Being Yourself :: Episode 3 - It's Your Goal !

Q: Why do people lose interest -or the required enthusiam- in achieveing their goals?

A: I think the main reason is that many people write down what others need or expect from them not what they really want.

Examples:
1. Those who want to live without the burdens of 9 to 5 job and they are talented enough to work as artists, writers, free lancers...etc but because the people around them are terrifying them from this life, they start un-dreaming their dreams!
2. Those who get hight scores in Thanawia Amma, and want to major in something they like, and end up majoring in Teb & Handasa to please their families!
3. The sweet couple who dream about their home, but family obligations change this dream to different goals.
4. Ha Meen Yezawed...

No matter how werid your dream or goal is, no one knows you better than yourself. Fight for your right to have and achive your own goals. Fight for your right to have enthiusiam in what you are doing. Have your path clear and be acctountable for your choices. Aboos Eidak Be Yourself !

609) Being Yourself ::: Episode 2 - Part 2 !

This is the 2nd part of last post. Ref: 608
Mohaly

Dear Mohaly,
how far would you -males- go against your society and family and be yourself, when it comes to loving a girl who has "unusual" conditions?
with unusual conditions i mean mainly 2 areas:
2. a girl who has been raped?
would you go against your society and family and marry a girl who has been raped?
out of love and respect and trust - not out of pitty or a heroic temp feeling?
only at a certain phase you would know this truth about her. would you believe her word, or she has to provide some proof?
would you be able to completely forget this fact and start a normal life with such a girl, keeping in mind that she is human, or unconscios influence of society would interfere here?
do you think she has the right to marry somone of her choice, up to her standards and maybe love- or te7med rabena that she finds soemone to marry aslan?
would you be yourself and prefer that she tells before marriage or keeps it hidden through any channel? correct the "mistake" and just keep her mouth shut?
would you be yourself and really work on making it up to her becuase she is just the same girl you know well enough to ask her to share your life? or would tradition interfere and you prefer to stay away and enough that you would keep her secret?

608) Being Yourself ::: Episode 2 - Part 1 !

As I mentioned before Ramadan that I will have "Being Yourself" as a new series in this blog but this time with your contribution as well. The first contribution I got from one of the blog readers who asked me not to reveal the name. It is a direct question addressing blog readers specially men. This message is divided into 2 parts where I am showing 1st part now and 2nd part in another post.
Mohaly

Dear Mohaly,
How far would you -males- go against your society and family and be yourself, when it comes to loving a girl who has "unusual" conditions?
with unusual conditions i mean mainly 2 areas:

1. older than you:
would you accpet it? i am addressing a generation living in 21st century, educated, open minded and already changed many old norms. but this concept is still not accpeted from many and not tolerated from many families.
what is the point?
- its not 7aram (our prophet & Khadija),
- its legal -no law agaisnt it,
- no statistics show that older age of a woman could be one of divorce's reasons.
- no moral objections to the concept.
- no medical objections to the concept. never heard that an older wife could be the reason of an unhealthy child.
why do we still look at it as a strange marriage? why do mothers go agaisnt it and see their sons as "etda7ak 3aleih"?
is it bad? is it wrong?
why do we still look at the girl in such a case as "shatra" because she convinced him of accepting her?
howa is she THAT bad, just because she is older?

would you guys stand for your right of choosing your wife according to your norms and not to your society and family? go agaisnt your mothers and stand to your wife-to-be?
is it hard? unacceptable? bad? wrong?

607) The Certainty about Virginity!

I find the way we handle the issue of virginity in our society a pure sort of hypocrisy and double standards. How come we are entering the 2nd decade of the 21st century, and a vast majority of us are still valuing and classifying women according to z-sometimes only according to- physical virginity?

I am not calling for having an open pre-marital sexual relations (although I still believe that it is totally a personal choice, and something that is hard to judge as it is All mighty God's not us who can judge, and punish- unless publically witnessed by 4 which is practically almost impossible ...etc.).

For the Hypocrisy part, we all know that now it is very easy for any girl to do what she wants and keep her virginity:

1. Either by going through all the steps the last step (you know what I mean).

2. Having an operation.

3. And now the latest Chinese -why am I not surprized- invention below!

So are we fooling ourselves or what?

For the Double Standards, I can't understand how come it is relatively acceptable -sometimes "desirable"- for men to have pre-marital sexual relations while women are always to be blamed and judged! I personally see virginity as an attitude and respect before being a physical test to prove it, whether you are a man or a woman!

Last and not least, why I do I feel that China understands us more than ourselves? They know that the Arab Culture is generally pro being satisfied if everything in public or on paper is fine, even if it is actually not!

606) Fawazeer Ramadan ::: First Post !

This is the last fazoura, and I will make it 2 in 1 (as I do repeat both every year, & coz the 2nd one may not be of interest to many, so there is an option :)

1st Fazoura: What was the first post that attracted you to this blog? & What was the first post to add your comment on?
the answers sometimes surprize me. Some people take sometime (even a year) to start writing their first comment :)

2nd Fazoura: Did you check-out Laylat El Qadr this year, if yes, which night did you feel the most?

I really enjoyed the Fawazeer with you & your comments this year, and will continue next year inShaa Allah law kan fel 3omr ba2ea.

600) Tribute to Life & Death; Tooti & Didi !

For those who joined the blog after the 500th post, I do dedicate every 100 post to someone.

This time I am dedicating it to 2 people who are very much related but have never seen each other. Actually one of them has just arrived right after the other left. I am dedicating this post to my grandma "mama didi" who left us in 2009 to a better world, and to my lovely niece "tooti" (nour) who arrived in 2009 too.

Didi and Nour are very close to me, and I have been wondering about the timing of their leaving and arrival. Is it a message from God to tell us that there will always be compensation someway, somehow, or it is just pure coincidence?!

In all cases I am always remembering my grandma, and LOVING the feeling of the uncle. Nour is a VERY fussy baby who needs 25 hours attention per day. Her father now is in Saudi, so I am her "Acting Father" now, and that is a new experience for me especially with such a young age. The good thing that I am the one whom she smile to the most, and we already have our song and dance :) I treat her as if she is 1 year old and she is less than 2 months old!

God Bless Nour and Rest Didi's soul in Heaven.

P.S. in the picture, I was so tired from pampering Noor all day on weekend, so we spontaneously took a nap together, and my sister couldn't pass the moment without capturing it :)

599) Fawazeer Ramadan ::: SomeOne !

593) Stress, Killing me Softly!

It is sad and scary how stressful life can affect one's health. I don't know how & when I did surrender to stress. But I know that -after tests- I am currently facing potential risk of health problems where I have to take care of my stress levels, food, exercise, and everything to be back to normal.

Guys, it is serious. Stress is a killer, I am now taking it very seriously coz I really don't want to pile up health problems just because I couldn't control my stress. From this moment I won't allow stress to dominate my life no matter what are the consequences. We only live once.

Stress is a biological term which refers to the consequences of the failure of a human or animal to respond appropriately to emotional orphysical threats to the organism, whether actual or imagined. It includes a state of alarm and adrenaline production, short-term resistance as a coping mechanism, and exhaustion. Common stress symptoms include irritability, muscular tension, inability to concentrate and a variety of physical reactions, such as headaches and elevated heart rate.

Enjoy your life, work hard, exercise, eat healthy food, have fun with loved ones, and sleep well. Please take care coz stress is sneaky and sometimes we don't feel it except after it becomes part of our life.

May Allah Bless us all,
Mohaly

Cairo SideWalk (Pavement) has been registered in Genis Records as the highest in the world!!
I do really get provoked of the continuous increase in the side walk heights (if it exists aslan). I see old people and children struggling to CLIMB it. The door of my car is ruined from the continuous pumping into the side walk. WHat is the point of having the highest side walk in the world?!
Ah another thing, why do they change it almost every year?!

591) Being Yourself !

Why is it always hard to be "yourself"?
Why are people looking for being like someone else while everyone can be unique in his or her own way based on his or her skills?
Why are we always looking for what others have and think that if we just have had that, we would have been happy and satisfied?
Why don't we make use of all what we have got first, and then start looking at what others have? I think if we did so, we won't have time to look to others aslan.
These thoughts were in my mind, but were personalized infront of me in this beautiful movie "Teer Enta" that I watched over the last weekend. I have chosen some important parts of the lyrics that really describe what I totally believe in, the parts in dark red do really touch a nerve.

588) Sawiris & France .. Tom & Jerry !

One of the first posts in this blog was about this guy, and I still consider Naguib Sawiris as one of the best Egyptian Businessman. He is now adopting the ideology of competition on equal basis. France Telecom wants to take over MobiNil, and we want to take over France new operator. But he has a valid question; will they be credible enough and allow us to fairly compete there ?!

586) A Citizen's Resignation !

Dear Sir,

Please accept my resignation from the "egyptian citizen" position, a position - to start with - that has no job description, no KPIs, even no clear requirements ... A position that also doesn't have a clear accountability or even equality between who does something and who does nothing ... Since I was appointed in this position and nobody hears, repects me, or bothers to know if I am on the right track or not. This has lead to accumulated stress and de-motivation that -in turn- lead to my decision to resign.

I wish you better luck with a better citizen who can fit into your "system".

Best Regards,
An Egyptian National

581) Diab or Tamer .. Just Enjoy It !!

I don't understand the fierce war taking place on the internet between Amr Diab's and Tamer Hosny's fans! it is becoming redicules begad! People have the right to choose their favorite music, signer, ...etc but i can see that people spend more time attacking each other more than listening to the songs and enjoying the music!

I am a fan of Amr Diab since his early albums, and I love his 90s songs. I can spot many beautiful well-prepared songs in his new album specially the ones tackling the non-common issues like friendship after love. Inspite of that, I blame him for dedicating all 12 songs for love, while in his age, he should include more songs about family (like the one Hisham Abbas did for his son), friendship, even polictics (like Tarateer El 3esely),...etc.

On the other hand I don't like Tamer Hosny not because he is bad but because simply I can't relate to him, what he says, or even the composition of his music. This doesn't mean that someone is better than the other. I don't think they should be compared in the first place, same thing like Abel Halim, and Amr Diab, or Um Kalthoum & Abdel Halim.

Why don't everyone enjoys what he/she wants, and let others enjoy theirs too! wala kol 7aga ba2t Ahly we Zamalek!

580) Will Egypt turn into a Theocratic Country?!

I am against the concept of "Theocratic Country" where people are ruled in the name of God and all the power is centralized in one hand who has divine guidance. I know that the power still in one hand even in an Autocratic regime like ours, but theocratic is even worse as we don't have even the privilege of arguing!

That is why I don't like the Ekhwan Moslmeen movement. What I hate about it is the political agenda they have under the name of Allah. I consider this hypocricy, they want power like everyone else but they want in a way that doesnt keep a space for anyone else.

Prophet Muhammad PBUH, has said that we know more about running our everyday operations because it is something that is subject to change all the time and there is no one size fits all. So, dealing with everyday challenges is a pure civil activity as long as we didn't surpass the general divine limits. Why do we need then someone to rule in the name of God!

The question that I don't know an accurate answer for though is why El Ekhwan still exists although they have been banned for more than 60 years! Sometimes because the ruler uses them like what Sadat did with Omar El Telmisani, sometimes because they play on the basic needs of the people (food, shelter..etc), but still I can't find an overall answer, and please don't tell me because "El Eslam howa el 7al" as it is too general to fit an agenda or a strategy.

I am just afraid that with all the current disappointemts in the Egyptian society, and as they say "fe ghafla men al zaman" we end up as a Theocratic country, will we? Hopefully not.
