We shouldn't use much water in cleaning cars, filling bath tub, Golf,...etc. Water is very precious and it won't be cheap as it is now. 10 years from now the water bill will be closer the electricity bill, we have to wake up before it is too late.
Life is precious, and water is the source of Life..

When washing dishes by hand, don't let the water run while rinsing. Fill one sink with wash water and the other with rinse water.
ReplyDeleteSome refrigerators, air conditioners and ice-makers are cooled with wasted flows of water. Consider upgrading with air-cooled appliances for significant water savings.
Adjust sprinklers so only your lawn is watered and not the house, sidewalk, or street.
Run your clothes washer and dishwasher only when they are full. You can save up to 1,000 gallons a month.
Choose shrubs and groundcovers instead of turf for hard-to-water areas such as steep slopes and isolated strips.
Install covers on pools and spas and check for leaks around your pumps.
Use the garbage disposal sparingly. Compost vegetable food waste instead and save gallons every time.
Plant in the fall when conditions are cooler and rainfall is more plentiful.
People in some parts in old cairo less than 1 km from Nile Cannot find water!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAmina,
ReplyDeleteHow come? and what do they do? go to the Nile and fill up their buckets?
By the way, I love your name Amina. It is one of my favorite names.
Thanks Mona :) Is Amina and Mona from the same linguistic origin?!
ReplyDeleteMona check this out
ReplyDeletehttp://interactiveworlds.blogspot.com/2007/11/water-shortage-in-cairo.html
http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/09/30/africa/letter.php
actually what happened last month that there were no water in the pipes and people started buying water packs.
I am not sure, but my mom used to call me Amina - it was my nickname for awhile.
ReplyDeleteAmina,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing the article and the videos.
That's so sad.
It will probably take me a couple of days at least to register and process what I just read.
Yes Mona, it is so sad, and you will go crazy when you know that the number of Golf courts in Cairo that are used by 0.001% of the society consumes as much water as a whole suburb!
ReplyDeleteYes, but what did or does the city council and the governor say to that?
ReplyDeleteAmina,
ReplyDeleteI found a full report that describes the local community initiative to address and resolve this very same problem.
You can read the full at:
http://www.hic-mena.org/SPH_cases/Saft%20al-Laban%20Eg.pdf
But I am surprised that the problem is not fully taken care of yet.
Mona, it seems that you haven't been in Egypt for a while!
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned to you before, Egypt (especially Cairo) is on a life-support system, and the plug can be pulled at any minute.
Thanks a lot ya Gannah for the supportive opinion and for understanding...
ReplyDeleteI find your idea more practical to try writing in Arabic every certain no. of posts...I hope that my Arabic writing will be satisfactory specially for people who are used to Arabic.
For the water Jannah, it is really serious more than you can imagine.
ReplyDeleteEgypt has a share of 55 Million cubic meter since 1959, and now the Nile Valley countries want to change that and want to build dams and this will affect our share (that is already not enough!) guess who is in the picture as well ; Israel..
It is not a matter of washing dishes only, it is a national security and on the supreme level. That is why I am saying we HAVE TO WAKE UP.
P.S. The Golf Courts culture in such country is driving me nuts!
