114) Anti Smoking - Part II - Practical Actions

  1. Why are you giving up? You need to be clear on this one as you need to remember your reasons to keep you going when you feel like giving in. It may be an idea to write out your list and put it in a prominent place, such as on your fridge, so that if the road gets a little tough you can use it for motivation.

  2. You will need the support of your family and friends to ensure that you persevere with you objective. You will need to get their ‘buy-in’ so that they encourage you throughout your journey. They will also need to be considerate and realise that this may be a tough period for you and perhaps going to a bar may breed temptation to pick up a cigarette.

  3. Aids to quitting If the addictive qualities of nicotine begin to get too much, you can try using a nicotine patches or chewing gum. Patches and gum are the two most popular aides used by somebody trying to quit smoking and do not require a prescription. They work by releasing a small amount of nicotine into your bloodstream but not the dangerous levels released by the nicotine in tobacco.

  4. Substitute your habit: As you probably spend a long time during the day with a cigarette in your hand, your hands are also going to miss not having a cigarette in them. Not only do you have to contend with not having the nicotine in your bloodstream you also have to contend with keeping your hands busy. You could try drinking more water, rolling a coin, holding hands more or even paging your loved ones. Don’t let your hard work go to waste!Once you have successfully kicked the habit you must ensure that you are not tempted to relapse by picking up another cigarette. You will still at times be caught remembering the time when you smoked but you also need to remember why you decided to quit in the first place.

  5. If you need to, refer to the list that you made at the beginning of your journey. When you do quit you (and you will) you should be immensely proud of yourself. You will have achieved something that millions of other people wish they had also achieved. Good Luck.

113) Dark or Blond?

Since a female editor is temp. managing a male blog, it is my chance to have a question that Mohaly won't even notice. You know hair color indicates quite a big part of the current personality of the girl. Here are 2 pics of Khajida (Egypt second lady) with dark and blond hair. Would you vote for the dark or blond hair when she becomes the first lady?

Isn't it provoking to have such news in the homepage of the biggest newspaper in Egypt. With all respect, who is G. Mubarak to have a news about his INTENDED visit to a city?!

111) Sexual Orientation- Part II

A fellow free lancer has written an article about the most popular post here (the 1oo comments one), and I thought of sharing it with you (after Mohaly's permission) specially there were some of you (like Tamer Rizk) who asked Mohaly to re-open it to comment.

Although I don't agree with his notion of the more people means they are right, & keeping it public but I am still for the freedom of sexual orientation, and so is Mohaly (he just adds "you are free, but keep the distance :)

Yasmine Ismail
on behalf of Mohaly

"The popularity of gay lifestyle is evident from the number of gay dating sites that has sprung up on Internet in recent times. It is a blessed platform for closeted gays to contact gay males for gay sex, romance and love relationship as anyone else would wish for.
Out Personals, Queer - these words characterize gay lifestyle, which till today is not an accepted mode of life to a large populace on this planet. Even in modern, fast-paced societies where liberal attitudes and sexual liberation are a norm, gay men are looked down upon.Country politics and social caretakers indulge in raging debates on gay lifestyles and gay rights in discussion forums, parliament, and conventions.
There is a marked hesitancy in accepting gays in government services and other public enterprises, though some nations have accorded acceptance but more has to be done. The crux is that homosexuality is in practice since ages and it is still as popular, without any signs of receding or vanishing from the face of earth. Then why not accept it since it does not impinge on anyone’s privacy or way of life. Nor is it detrimental to the society since gay dating lifestyle is a much-closeted practice.
I am not advocating gay life as a gay-which I am not-but what I want to stress is that everyone has a right to express his or her sexuality and practice as long as it does not hurt others. The reason behind ridicule or sneer of gay lifestyle is that it is a biological aberrance as sex is for procreation and a man-to-man sex does not give birth to new being.
But then, anal sex practice is not limited to gay couples only, it is much practiced by straight couples too, so what is funny. Sex is for procreation but it is for pleasure too, and any which way you can. Therefore, “Out” sex practice is not restricted to guys only but rather practiced by straight lifestyle followers in some way or the other. So live and let live.

109) Vit Fit - Part I

Crunch in Bed:
  • Before you even get out of bed in the morning, do 10 stomach crunches while lying flat on your mattress.
  • Increase daily by one until you get up to 100.
  • Think you'll never get there? Try it.
  • You may eventually have to set your clock to wake up 15 minutes earlier, a small price to pay for a flatter stomach.

Y.I. (for Mohaly)

108) The Prosperity of the Egyptian Republic!!

I usually read Al-Ahram through the Internet, today I found that the Egyptian President has delivered a speech yesterday in the occasion of labour day (I thought it is May 1st like the US). Anyway, I have read the headline saying what is highlighted in red. but found myself very confused because what is said here means that Egypt is on the edge of gaining the fruits of the hard time, while what you guys say is totally the opposite.

I sms-ed Mohaly about it and he said that if you have access to last years' speeches in the similar occasions, you will always find us in a "Historical Stage" or "Threshold of prosperity". It seems that Egyptians've spent too long standing on the threshold of prosperity door, while no one is actually inside to open.

106) AUC.....Mohaly's Love

One of the things that Mohaly loves most is the AUC. He thinks (and he is factually right) it is the best university in Egypt & Arab World. He even held to this idea after studying abroad in the US during his junior year.

The AUC provides you with quality education with a different integrating variety of curriculum. This is in addition to a very rich student life and activities (most of mohaly's early posts were in AUC, and he won best club president before his graduation 10 years ago). Last and not least, the big variety of nationalities and cultures blended in 1 institution.

What makes Mohaly sad is that many people has the perception of AUC as being a social club for rich and spoilt kids...etc and they mix between the AUC and the CACE (Center for Adult and Continuing Education) that is open for public.

I know that some of you went to AUC, yasmine i guess is working there, and others are mocking, so where does AUC stand in the development of Egyptian and Arab minds.

Anyway, regardless of my opinion about the pageant, do you think the pictures displayed here represent Mr.Egypt.

THE 100th POST

This is my 100th post since I started blogging.
I didn't imagine that it will come in such circumstances (90 mins before a surgery), so I will just say what I feel at the moment without editing....

Although it is not a big operation, but it is my 1st, and "el 2a3mar beyad Allah".
I just want to say that I tried my best to make a positive difference, sometimes I succeeded, others I didn't but I am not regretting the time or effort, and I am sure that if I 'didn't finish what i am trying to start, others will definitely do, and even better than me.
I tried to love everyone or at least like, and el 7amdulleah I don't hate anyone and don't have enemies.
I just have a request, if I did or say anything to anyone that made him/her upset, please forgive me.

Pray for me,
Mohaly

Operation at 9am CLT, in hospital till Sunday, in bed at home till 30 April.
P.S. I have written 2 draft posts that will be published with someone's help in the next 2 days till I am able to "sit" again by Tuesday in-shaa-Allah.

Contradictions Part VI - Egypt Anchorwomen Battle for Hijab

Ranyah Sabry (BBC News)

The last four years in the lives of TV presenters Hala El Malki and Ghada El Tawil have been a continuous struggle brought about by their employers’ refusal to implement two court verdicts

TV anchors Hala elMalki and Ghada El Tawil have won court cases in civil court and state court; opinions in both courts affirmed their right to wear hijab while anchoring the news. The TV state-owned station will not relent, however.

The fact that Egypt is a Muslim-majority country makes this totally absurd.

Marriage & Virginity - Part II

I believe that this reply from Yasmine Farahat deserves another post of its own to dicuss the importance of virginity in egyptian marriages.
Mohaly

Y. Farahat said:
people make mistakes, men and women. say a girl was foolish and reckless, naive and in love, whatever the reason, but she ended up sleeping with a guy. it's a mistake, she admits it and regrets it. does that mean she is doomed, and would never be able to marry a decent guy? will she be judged forever because of that mistake, however big it is?like khateeb said, this is something that will have to come up in a relationship eventually.if she's dating a guy, and it's going well, and they're considering having a future together (which means that he thinks she's a good person), if she told him that she's not a virgin due to a mistake she regrets. Does that mean that he would end it just because of a mistake?I want you all to think of what i said in a very objective way, and share your thoughts.

Women....God Bless You :)

--I think women are a great blessing from God.
--They give life a taste, odour, and color (hopefully good one).
--I believe that the luckiest man is the one who has a loving and caring woman/women (mother, sister, wife, daughter) in his life.

Don't Answer....Any Answer is wrong!

In Roz-al-Youssuf, I have read an interview with a college girl saying:

"I evaluate the guy through the answer of 1 question: "Do you accept marrying a girl who is not virgin?". If he said yes, or no, or even it depends, I don't consider him a real man!!! coz the only right answer is "it doesn't matter"! ".

This is like choose any color as long as it is blue!

The Three Challenges of the PM!

If you are the prime minister of Egypt, and you are asked to choose 3 major challenges that you will work on solving as a threshold for the development of the country, what will choose?

If I was the PM I will focus on Education, Health, & Traffic in order to build the minds, build the bodies, and utilize the time & efforts, and this will lead to a better generation and better services. But the floor is open to discuss which 3 are the most important (significant).

P.S. Let's assume that the PM is elected so he is committed to his promises & plans.

Happiness - Part II - Quality of Life

  • Making time for yourself and self-care is worth doing, even when it requires changing a few things around, because it promotes good health and improves the quality of daily life.
  • Quality of life is part of the recipe for happiness, but it is also an outcome of a lifestyle that incorporates a reasonable level of self-care.
  • The lifestyle changes you make to improve your health should increase the quality of your daily life to the fullest extent possible. They should somehow make you feel good.
  • Even people who say they "hate" exercise say they enjoy the way they feel after an exercise session...relaxed, invigorated and renewed.

- Deal with one item at a time.
- Never put anything back into 'in'.
- If an item requires action:
---- do it (if it takes less than two minutes),
---- delegate it, or
---- defer it.
- If not,
---- file it for reference,
---- throw it away, or
--- incubate it for possible action later.
- The 5-minute Rule: If it would take less than 5 minutes to do something, just do it right away.

- Did you enhance your plans, and execution?
- Did you loose faith in achieving them?
- Are you happy with what you did so far?
- Is there anything you want to change for a better achievement during the rest of the year?

Goodbye Kiss....Egypt Regional Role!

In 2007 -so far- the deterioration of the Egyptian role in the region became so obvious. Saudi Arabia is the most prominent heir of the lost Egyptian crown. Some obvious signs:

- Palestinian sects peace agreement.
- Arab Summit happenings.
- Key players visits to the area without passing by Egypt (US Senate Chair, German Chancellor,..etc).
- Libya, & Jordan are re-organizing the Egyptian employment, I am afraid to find Sudan regulating it too!!

Fair Dictatorship is Needed!!

After seeing what is going on, and talking to a lot of people... I believe that Egypt - in the near future- doesn't need democracy as much as it needs a FAIR & CLEAN Dictator who can force the right things in the right place at the right time, then we can move to democracy. There are many social diseases that need to be cured before moving on to democracy. I am afraid if not, democracy will get us nothing but Al Ekhwan with all their greediness.

The issue of using women's bodies from contests to ads passing by clips...etc is becoming awful and disgusting. But why girls keep on supporting this, and more & more models are coming up everyday, i don't know. May be a girl will help!

Ana mesh ma3ahaom....Am I Lost between 2 worlds?!

I am not talking about the movie, but about reality.

-Don't you feel lost between What you do, and What you "should have" done?!
-Don't you feel confused about what you want to do, and what you can do?!
.
I have always been a moderate person when it comes to point of views. I don't like to be an extremist (except in time management :), in religion, i am not fanatic nor non-religious; in politics, i am not capitalist, communist, right wing, left wing, or any (may be my believes are closer to socialist but can't consider myself one); in love, not "sahtan" nor "galanf". I am always having my own way, line, opinion, that may coincide or clash sometimes with one or all of these views.
.
But, and ahhhh men but, although I feel peaceful about this choice, and had lot of success, I feel that I am lost between 2 worlds, West & East. I think, work, operate (manage my day) in a more western style regarding systems, production, plans, studies, time, respect,...etc. However, my feelings are definitely eastern (very sensitive, passionate, emotional, ...etc).

Some people tell me I am lucky coz I am having the best of each world, but do you think I am, or I am lost between 2 worlds?

Mohaly...Gates!!

For my bad luck, the only chance I had to meet Bill Gates in my life was documented with less than half-face. Is there a software that can show the rest of it ?! :)))
Mohaly

If you looked (actually digged) at the picture below, you will find Bill Gates (Micorsoft Chairman), accompanied by Kareem Ramadan (GM Microsoft Egypt), and Ahmed Darwish (Ex.Head of E-Gov project then, now minister). This picture was taken in early 2005 when Gates visted Egypt, and one of the stuff inagurated was a project I was co-managing as MSN Arabia with MS Egypt.

P.S. Tamer Mokhtar, I know you hate the word inagurated, but it is fitting here!

7 Stages of Life...Which stage are you in?

1. Infancy: In this stage he is dependent on others and needs to be constantly attended to.
2. Childhood: It is in this stage that he begins to go to school. He is reluctant to leave the protected environment of his home as he is still not confident enough to exercise his own discretion.
3. Lover: In this stage, comparable to modern day adolescence, he is always remorseful due to some reason or other, especially the loss of love. He tries to express feelings through song or some other cultural activity.
4. Soldier: It is in this age, comparable to modern day young adult, that he thinks less of himself and begins to think more of others. He is very easily aroused and is hot headed. He is always working towards making a reputation for himself and gaining recognition, however shortlived it may be, even at the cost of his own life.
5. Justice: In this stage, comparable to modern day adult, he has acquired wisdom through the many experiences he has had in life. He has reached a stage where he has gained prosperity and social status. He becomes very attentive of his looks and begins to enjoy the finer things of life.
6. Old age: He begins to lose his charm — both physical and mental. He begins to become the brunt of others' jokes. He loses his firmness and assertiveness, and shrinks in stature and personality.
7. Mental dementia and death: He loses his status and he becomes a non-entity. He becomes dependent on others like a child and is in need of constant support before finally dying.

If you think Shakespeare is right in the above, Which Stage are you in?
I think I am stuck in the "Lover" stage, although I have never succeeded to be one!!

Mohaly Blog Stars....YASMINEs Vs. TAMERs!!

I have noticed something..

TAMER Mokhtar always argue with YASMINE Ismail
&TAMER Rezk recently argues with YASMINE Farahat

- The main argument of Mokhtar/Ismail is in the sexual topics, while the Rezk/Farahat in political ones; i.e. Taboos.

Is there something wrong with the names that they argue a lot or is it the distance :)

Jeddal about Jammal - Part II - Al Dostour supports Farahat

It seems that the daily doustour is supporting Y Farahat in her opinion against mine :( It seems she has connections!

I will be democratic and publish this public support for Farahat, and I suggest that she, and Bebo establish a new liberal party (not kidding) coz the liberal parties (wafd and ghad) aren't liberal anymore!

By the way there is a rumor that Gamal Mubarak will establish a new party called the "Future Party - Al Mostakbal", yasmine why don't you join?! wala you do all that coz you are jealous from Khadija who won your "dream guy"?!

Contradictions in Our Lives - V.....Naked & Proud!

Freedom is personal, but when you represent a relatively conservative country, more decency is expected in your outfit.

Are you ready to Pay the Price?!

Many of us dream about many things but few of us actually accomplish them, why? because either we don't know or we don't wanna pay the price of turning the dream into a goal.

According to Rich Lucas, there are five prices that we have to think about. The total price may be one, two, or all of the following:

Financial - How much money will it cost?
Emotional - How will fulfilling this affect your moods?
Mental - Will you have to learn new things?
Physical - How will fulfilling your intention impact on you physically?
Time - How much time will you spend on fulfilling your intention?

So are you prepared to pay the price of your dreams?

April's Fool....The origin, and your experiences!

It has been suggested that Europe derived its April-fooling from the French. France was one of the first nations to make January 1 officially New Year's Day. This was in 1582, even before the adoption of the Gregorian calendar.

Thus the New Year's gifts and visits of felicitation which had been the feature of the 1st of April became associated with the first day of January, and those who disliked or did not hear about the change were fair game for those wits who amused themselves by sending mock presents and paying calls of pretended ceremony on the 1st of April.

French and Dutch references from 1508 and 1539 respectively describe April Fools' Day jokes and the custom of making them on the first of April.

Why don't you share your experience in past or present April fools?!
